Where the cartels get their guns.

jodiego - 12-1-2008 at 08:26 AM

According to federal law enforcement officials, Houston, Texas has become the city of choice for the mexican gangsters because of its numerous gun shops, its proximity to the border, and its long-established networks for smuggling narcotics into the USA. So let me see if I've got this right. America's appetite for drugs fuels the drug wars that are being armed with american guns. What a wonderful scenario for all those American druggies and their suppliers. Not only do they get a continuous flow of drugs into this country, but a bunch of mexicans get killed in the process. So that's what they mean when the government tells us we're winning the war on drugs.:(

Yup

They were bought legally in Texas.

If Mexico wanted to stop them from being imported south, they could try monitoring southbound border crossings. They can't have it both ways... open borders=smuggling. They can fix the problem on their own if they wanted to, but they would rather complain about and blaaame the USA than act.

I wonder where the cartels get the AK-47s? I haven't seen them for sale at Walmart. :?:

Try a WalMart in Texas.

castaway$ - 12-1-2008 at 03:53 PM

Flea market? Don't need a permit to sell there and they don't keep very good records.:(

BajaGringo - 12-1-2008 at 04:11 PM

The question of the high caliber and other sophisticated weapons being used by the cartels is an interesting one and likely has some embarrassing answers if the whole truth ever sees the light of day.

Of course, I have never been to a Texas Wal-Mart so perhaps I should check first...

If not Texas, Lousiana then. Where there are willing buyers, you will always find sellers. Running drugs, smuggling guns, smuggling humans, the sex trade- it's all the same because man is imperfect. We are hedonist and evil by nature and need many laws and whacky religions to keep us in line.

... and the next generation of American kids is far worse than us apparently. They do more drugs, lie more about important things, cheat (especially those in private and religious schools) and steal from stores more than their parents did- yet they think of themselves very highly and think they take the moral high road. They look in the mirror and see someone better than they really are.

I would ask that question to the NRA members, and the gun shows (they have them every other weekend all over TEXAS):tumble:

Woooosh - 12-1-2008 at 06:32 PM

So why is it our problem if people smuggle legally bought weapons into another country without our knowledge or permission? The only ones blaming us is Mexcio.

Udo - 12-1-2008 at 06:35 PM

NRA members?? Heres a little info for the obviously uninformed who inhabit this board.
Most of the majority of weapons and ammo that find there way into the hands of the cartels and criminals do come from america,by way of the colombians. The ameican government sends vast amounts of weapons and ammo through the DEA to the Colombian forces to help with the drug war. These weapons are the AR-15 and M-16 rifles we no longer use and many of the 9mm Beretta hand guns. The rifles use the 223 remmington NATO round and that is indeed what they are finding in Mexico. It seems that some of these stocks are being stolen and the cartels are including these in shipments of drugs to Mexico. The majority of weapons being used in Mexico are AK-47s and they are also coming from Colombia and their origin is from the rebels who are fighting the Colombian government there. They are plentiful in colombia and are from China so do the math.
Read every newspaper account of all the shootings and they will tell you what wepons are used. More often than not, its the Ak-47s that are used.
Sure some border based drug cowboys are cross border shopping but the bulk of the weapons are delivered free with the bulk of the drugs as total chaos in Mexico helps these drug cartels with their business.
Mexico would stop it but does not have enough good people in government to make it happen.
It will get a lot worse before it gets better. It always does.

Yeah, the appetite for drugs in America and money fuels the drug wars.
Would like to see a government link (or some official quote) that says we`re winning the war on drugs.
BTW, some pretty darn good weapons come from other countries. And I do believe the cartels could afford them.
Just don`t get why bad people get a pass from the "Blame America" crowd!
