Do You Know What You're Missing?

EMAM - 12-8-2008 at 12:57 PM

I hope all you Nomads who are basking in the Sunshine know what you're missing up here in the Great White North!

All we have to say is "Damn are we jealous!":(

Hope to be back down just after the Christmas Holiday/New Year celebration and dig our toes in the sand.

Memories

Skipjack Joe - 12-8-2008 at 01:57 PM

I spent a winter in New Hampshire one year. All of us carried these special window scrapers that you had to use on your windshield because it took the defroster forever to get warm enough. And even then the VW's was so weak only a corner cleared up making it necessary to drive with your face 2" from the windshield. Everything you did in winter was an undertaking. Even walking up the steps to the front door could send you flying on the ice.

Oh, so you're talkinga bout me the other day when I went to take out the garbage and fell down the back stairs.

While I lay there cussing Old Man Winter, I can hear my wife Cindy in the House laughing hysterically.

Rather than come out and see if I'm all right (I slid down all 5 stairs on my butt with head bouncing off each step) She just stayed in the house laughing her guts out

This being home for the holidays is gotten old real quick. Next year if the family wants to see us for Christmas, they can come visit in Baja;D

DianaT - 12-8-2008 at 03:13 PM

Pat,

I LOVE that picture. I love what it says, and I love the way you composed it. But, I am sure glad we are not there!

Can't wait to see you and Cindy back in Bahia Asuncion!

Thanks Diane, something tells me you wouldnt love it as much if you were the one who took it:lol:

bajalera - 12-8-2008 at 04:43 PM

What do yoo mean "basking"? This morning was so chilly I had to put on a sweater. I'm getting ready to start complainging about the cold weather--winter is almost here.

EMAM - 12-8-2008 at 05:21 PM

Talk about a chore, try loading the toys up when it's 18 degrees outside:fire:

In order to hook up the straps, you have to have your gloves off, and it just isnt fun.

I'd take sitting on a beach sipping a warm beer right now over the one I have that's frozen from sitting it on the ground while I hooked everything up

4baja - 12-8-2008 at 06:15 PM

Both the wife and Truck stay plugged in this time of year! The truck to a engine block heater, and the wife to a blender mixing up drinks to keep us buzzed up enough to stay in this God Awful mess:(

cftlet - 12-11-2008 at 07:52 PM

Local weather is calling for lows of 3 degrees and highs under 18 starting this weekend.
We are leaving a week too late !! :(
May have to chain-up the trailer to get down the hill, but we ARE leaving !!

cftlet - 12-11-2008 at 10:12 PM

We live in grants pass ore. I was in red bluff on business in october and I decided to leave my 5th wheel there so I would not have to chain it up going over the siskyous after the holidays. we are headed to baja for three months of sun, cervasa.fishing and great food. We are leaving after the holidays, cant hardly wait. As I get older I think about leaving earlier.:bounce:

EMAM - 12-12-2008 at 12:06 PM

Just staying in Baja and becoming a TRUE NOMAD

In Duluth we used to consider 20 above to be Indian Summer!:O

DianaT - 12-12-2008 at 07:48 PM

Igor, that is a GREAT winter shot----

Diane

Natalie Ann - 12-12-2008 at 08:19 PM

What a beautiful snow tree, Igor. I love how the snow has completely coated the branches, yet we see the pattern formed by those tiny needles - like little snowflakes at the end of each drooping branch.

Nena

Skipjack Joe - 12-12-2008 at 08:47 PM

Thank you all. EMAM's tree picture reminded me of this one.

I spent a winter one year in New Hampshire and one of fondest my memories was how Christmas felt with all the snow on the ground. I remember taking great delight in evening walks and seeing the porch lights from those victorian homes throwing shadows on the snow in the front yards. You could hear your feet crunch in the cold silence. Somehow Christmas seemed more 'right' there than anywhere I've ever been.

BTW, it's getting noticeably colder here today. It's time to adjust that thermostat. Maybe a hot bath ....

805gregg - 12-12-2008 at 08:56 PM

Nice looking rig, what kind of bike is that? KlR?

EMAM - 12-13-2008 at 02:09 PM

Thanks, the bike is a Suzuki DRZ 400SM, the SM stands for Supermoto

It's basically a RM 400 with 17" street tires on or a great run-around bike that can handle dirt roads and nasty bumps like any dirt bike, but rides real smooth on the pavement.

Since 80% of what we use it for is just zipping around town so we dont have to unhook the camper, we chose that bike.

It's real light and easy to ride.

marv sherrill - 12-15-2008 at 12:19 PM

On the positive side - no problem keeping the beer cold....

BajaGeoff - 12-15-2008 at 03:22 PM

I think the problem would be keeping the beer from freezing!

DianaT - 12-18-2008 at 08:25 PM

This week you can be VERY close to Baja and still find this.

One very Chilly Cactus :lol::lol:

Diane

EMAM - 12-18-2008 at 09:50 PM

HA HA Diane, that's what you get for teasing me that the farthest North you get is San Diego in the Winter

But really, that's strange to see!!

Great Picture

Skipjack Joe - 12-21-2008 at 09:53 PM

I like your snowy cactus picture, Diane. It looks like you're going in a different direction in photography and seeing in a different way then you did before. Could be the beginings of a new journey.

The image is real sharp also. But technically good pictures are overrated. It's the vision, at least, for me.

Thanks Igor,

I very much value your thoughts. ---I hope it is a new journey---stayed tuned.
