El Sudcaliforniano says no whales yet.

bajajudy - 12-16-2008 at 08:19 AM

This article says that the gray whales have not arrived yet. Probably because of the warm waters late into the season.

What about the non-gay whales? Are they there yet?

El Jefe - 12-16-2008 at 08:45 AM

Yes, leaping humpbacks were out there yesterday. Haven't seen a lot yet this year, but a handful of them are seen most days now. This off the coast of San Jose del Cabo.

DianaT - 12-16-2008 at 09:05 AM

That is surprising because there were a few early birds swimming south in front of our house in October----only saw a few.

Thanks for the info.

Steve&Debby - 12-16-2008 at 09:33 AM

The gay whales have not arrived yet because they are protesting prop 8:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:

I sometimes wonder about elsudcalifornia . . . whales have been swimming past the ranch since Nov 14th, although so far, not in huge numbers

bajajudy - 12-16-2008 at 10:04 AM

DK:I seriously doubt that Sudcaliforniano is part of the media hysterics you are always talking about over global warming.

I had no hidden agenda for posting this...just thought that it was an interesting observation.

The only thing I am interested in is whether YOU have seen Gray whales in Baja this season. You obviously haven't. You have nothing to add to this topic so butt out.

I live on the beach in Los Cabos and I haven't seen any Grays yet this season.

If you want to talk about the veracity of newspapers in Mexico, start another thread!

David K - 12-16-2008 at 10:33 AM

Since most gray whale don't go beyond the three primary destinations of Scammon's Lagoon, San Ignacio Lagoon, Magdalena Bay I am not surprised YOU haven't seen any... However, even 'rob' who lives west of La Paz has seen some... can you see his post?

In case you can only read what I post, here is rob's: "I sometimes wonder about elsudcalifornia . . . whales have been swimming past the ranch since Nov 14th, although so far, not in huge numbers" :!::biggrin::rolleyes:

dk,
did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? why are you fighting about whales and the media this morning? take a chill pill, dude.
btw, your la paz source did not say "gray" (or "gay") whales. he did say "not in huge numbers":lol:

We are talking about Grays! Yes there are a few Humpbacks, but El Sud was not talking about Humpbacks.

I was out in the islands off La Paz for 4 days two weeks ago on the boat. Didn't see one whale of any species. Doesn't mean they weren't there, but I didn't see any evidence of them.

Take your ranting to off topic.

dk, seems like you are sensitive to people criticising your manhood
have you ever been to see the ballena gris in the lagoons?? after you see pink floyd, you will really question your manhood

facts rule!
save the whales!

Oxxo the islands off La Paz are about 1000 miles from the lagoons where the grays are destined at this time?

DK made a clear point about factual errors in the syndicated news story. Obviously elsudcalifornianos are syndicating the media machine.

Not too worry all is well, just that its clear you can't believe what you read in the news apparently, not at all.

David K - 12-16-2008 at 11:52 AM

Pick and choose what you want to read and to believe, oxxo and 666...

The facts don't change because the news reports something different...:?:

Rob (who lives on the coast west of La Paz) know what gray whales are, I am sure ... Shari for sure know them!!!

I will believe Rob and Shari over Sudcalifornia any day!

That you both are stuck on insults and reading issues says volumes!

Have a nice day!

bajajudy - 12-16-2008 at 12:23 PM

Not that I expect anyone to care
BUT this is precisely why I dont post much anymore.
Baja Nomads, the home of the Bickersons.
Y'all have fun ya hear.

gnukid - 12-16-2008 at 12:30 PM

Bickering is better than soft-balling a bunch of lies...

I have come to really appreciate DK's detail and information and everyone's posts which far exceed the accuracy of published news journals. So YAY Bickersons.

David K - 12-16-2008 at 01:43 PM

and all because I simply made a comment about the paper's motive in posting a false story... LOL

Sad that points of view that differ from the left, are shouted down. What happened to open mindedness and those freedoms liberals claim to charish so?:?:

Anyway, keep on posting what the local paper puts out Judy, otherwise the lies will become truth! I removed some of my replies to clean up the thread... if oxxo and 666 remove theirs, I will remove all my replies to them.

norte - 12-16-2008 at 01:50 PM

Amazing how many arm chair experts we have on this board. They don't believe the news, Don't have first hand info, but boy can the give you their opinion. of course opinions are just like./.....

Acuity - 12-16-2008 at 02:01 PM

Well, I appreciated your post, Judy!

I don't think the paper deliberately posted a false story. Maybe they just forgot to get you to fact check the story?

Read it---early and explanation why. As I posted earlier, we were in BA at the time and saw a FEW whales pass by.

Maybe, just maybe the newspaper knows more about something than you do, or is this one of those things that if a NOmad didn't see it, it didn't happen???

Once again, you want to make sure EVERYONE knows, and knows, and knows your politics---oh, I know, since there are some very new nomads, maybe they didn't know-----I am sure they will read about it over, and over.:rolleyes:

Judy, as I said earlier, great post and very worthwhile information to share.

Thanks
Diane

So, I am at a loss here... are there gray whales off Baja as Nomads have seen... Or, because a newspaper says no, they are not???

Nomad personal report= Trust their eyes

Newspaper story read by Nomad= Hear-say story (ie. I trust a Nomads news over a paper's news)

Of course that's just the silly way I see things!

Boy that settles it---a few whales seen by nomads, so yes, that newspaper had to be a part of the worldwide conspiracy to report false stories---all with a polictical agenda. Yep, that settles it.

BTW, it might be a good idea if you actually read the article before you decide it is "hear-say"and false.

and ANOTHER thing, David....

danaeb - 12-16-2008 at 07:28 PM

.....the paper was reporting the observations of PROFEPA, the agency responsible for tracking the whale migrations, so if anything, your beef should be with them if you disagree, instead of your knee-jerk reaction about "the media". Secondly, nowhere in the article was there any reference to "man-made" global warming. And thirdly, when did you become a climate scientist? When you get your degree, you can come back and pontificate, otherwise, YOUR 'facts' are nothing more than opinions, or should I say, regurgitations.

El Camote - 12-16-2008 at 09:38 PM

you can't trust those arrogant giants who think too highly of themselves to arrive at an appointment on time. Even the prehorseradish tree authorities know that.

Gustavo Alonso Alvarez La Paz, South Baja California. - Officially 15 of December yesterday initiated the season of sighting of gray whale in the coasts of the Pacific of South Baja California, but the whales have in fact not arrived at the complexes lagunares. The federal authorities prehorseradish tree that will be in the middle of January when they are arriving the giants that are conceited come behind schedule to their appointment by the high temperature that still has waters of this region, an effect more of the climatic change. The delegate of the Federal Office of the judge advocate general of Protection to Ambiente (PROFEPA), Maritza Muñoz Vargas, confirmed that the sanctuaries are empty, only is a registry of sighting of a whale " piloto" , the one that sends first a to recognize the route mainly and, to measure the temperature of the water. Already there were advance the meteorologists who in this part of the country the winter would be warm, and he is it as much that the temperature of the Pacific continues being unsuitable for the arrival of the gray whale, that every year travels from waters of the north of the American Union to reproduce in BCS, sites like Eye of Hare, Lopez Mateos and San Carlos. The past year the presence of gray whale in BCS was much smaller to other years, and migrated much more to the south, even until the state of Jalisco, this year the delegate comments that there are no indications that the phenomenon is repeated, or that lowers plus the presence of the whale. " The certain thing is that the climate in BCS for the dates in which we are is hot and that can be the cause, like part of all this problem of the change climático" , Muñoz commented Vargas. While they wait the arrival of the whales, the delegate explained that already advanced training courses for the good handling of the whale sighting were realised in Port San Carlos and Lopez Mateos with the support of Group Islands and the SEMARNAT; " We are looking for that the lenders on watch take brings back to consciousness so that they offer a better service in this season, consist of doing dynamic and practical where it is possible to be established the mechanisms and padlocks for a better service, to regulate the use of life jackets, the number of passengers in the boat and the respect to maintain a prudent distance to animal" , he commented. The PROFEPA will maintain the monitoring of the sanctuaries of the gray whale to give pursuit to this season of sighting, that of entrance seemed that she will be atypical again.

David K - 12-17-2008 at 01:38 AM

Sounds like the way it was mentioned here (thanks Judy)... It is the report that I 'reacated' to! I never said 'worldwide conspiracy', or anything other than what I said: "It could be global warming hysteria by the media... ? Seems to me that Shari already posted she saw them." It COULD be... (my opinion, okay) and I didn't say 'man-made', either... you people!:light:

In fact, whales are off Baja... so the report is misleading (false?) and the paper should have checked on the facts before getting all the greenies upset... Please have their editor read Baja Nomad before the next whale story is printed!:D;D:lol:

Now, please laugh a little bit people... it is Christmas time!

Thanks Camote for the translation... those are fun to figure out!
