We are headed to Baja for 2 weeks starting Dec 27. We are riding a couple of Yamaha WR450s with a Toyota Tacoma 4X4 as a chase/supply truck. Just wondering if anyone has been in the La Purisma/ San Isidro/ Comondus/San Javier area recently? I know some of the "roads" in that area took a beating a couple years ago and we're wondering if the truck will be able to get through, or if needs to go around.

The Toyota will have no problem from La Purisima to Hwy 1 and Hwy 1 to San Javier. We drove both in an Explorer in Oct. We were told that the San Javier/Comondu road is very dificult and likewise Comondu/San Isidro but did not do those roads ourselves.

From the top of the mesa looking west toward the valley and San Isidro. I'm jealous. We rode it on a DR650 and KTM 640 in March. The 61 km from HW 1 will make the chase truck driver glad to have arrived. :lol:

Between La Purisima and Comundo are places where clearance was useful or necessary last month. Perry, the last two storms beat up the road in a few places pretty good. I think that's where I wore out my (ungeaseable)ball joints!

I recently took a liesurely country drive from Coyote Bay south to La Purisima - the Comundos to Scorpion Bay - side trip east a bit towards Mulege to friend's rancho..and then came home via north, then east to San Ignacio and the highway again. Piece of cake in my 4X4 Dodge 2500 stock pickup with shell. You should have no problems, unless you get lost or break thru the mud flats heading towards San Ignacio!

Our old east road to Mulege has not been graded for some years and is pretty potholed in spots. Slow going but great views.

The route south of here at Rosarito to San Ysidro/La Purisma is rutted and rough..no fun, but do-able. Lots of doves & quail everywhere...desert is muy verde..very green and beautiful. Just go slow, watch for dust clouds coming at you, take spares, survival gear, sat phone, walkie-talkies, plywood, shovel, log chain, ropes, beer, your map, you know...normal Baja stuff.

A word of caution: Know the side trails before you take them...if you have trouble, you might not see anyone for days..or weeks. Best to leave route and timetable with a friend..and stick to it.

Cool! Did you get some recent photos between Comundo and the cut-off to Purisima? Must have been pretty green eh.

Which is to say...it is not quite as brown as usual. I have about 200 photos of our trip and hopefully will have enough energy to write an account here soon.

On another trip to La Purisima, Manuel and Pier swear they spotted Bigfoot de Baja, but it was only me sprinting back for our forgotten beer cooler. My nickname for that trip was.. Gazelle. :lol:

Didn't make it to La Purisma but did do the road from La Ballena to Mulege. It was one of the prettiest rides/drives of our trip. No problem for the Tacoma; never used 4 wheel drive. It looked like they had been working on the road, especially the western half. River crossings were not deep, maybe 18" at the one spot.
