Is everything as bad as it sounds?

shnookey - 12-18-2008 at 02:29 PM

I have never been to Baja and really want to visit-
Rosarito in particular. From what I've read it sounds
really violent right now and doesn't seem to be the best idea.
Can anyone tell me how bad it is down there? Or can anyone tell me that it's all hype? Thanks!!!

Probably everything you've read is true. Those who say it's a safe place are probably in the hospitality or real estate business. Many people still go and have a good, uneventful time, in fact, most. Knowing that as well as what you have read, the decision is yours to make. Personally, if it was a day trip, I'd do it but, would have no desire to extend my stay.
Take the required precautions about night driving and stay in populated places.
Welcome to BajaNomad.

I personally havent had any uneventfull encounters exept the weather last week wihch made a chaos in Rosarito. With all due respect...i think rodarito is nice pkace to visit and party but there is a lot more of Baja Norte than Rosarito...I would encourage you to spend a bit of time in ensenada as well where we have other regional things to offer

Shnookey.....

We had been going to Rosarito for about 20 years, but when it came time to buy, we picked Ensenada....and we love it!!!!!

Rosarito has taken a hard turn south these past several months and I think you are better off right now to just drive through on your trip to Baja. Even if they could guarantee your safety, the place resembles a ghost town right now so I don't see much fun in that. Ensenada and parts south would be a better bet IMHO...

Forget Rosarito and head to Ensenada. I don't know how many days you plan on coming down for, but there are dozens of great Nomads living there, especially in the Baja Country Club and Punta banda areas. Great parties both places. Plus you need to make it to La Bufadora and time your visit so you get there at high tide.
U2U the Ensenada area members for some of the best hospitality in Baja.

If I could pick up my house and move it south from Rosarito, I would.

Just don't stop for any motorcycle cops in TJ! The three kidnap victims freed yesterday said the whole kidnapping event happened when they were pulled over my a motorcycle cop. One of them had his finger cut off. Teo's kidnap victims lose their fingers, his enemies lose their heads.
