Looking to find a mariachi band for about two hours play time at Point Loma for my son's wedding in May. Play time would be 6pm to 8pm and D.J. takes
over after that. I would like to be able to take them to see them play somewhere also before I seal the deal. I know some mariachi cross over from
T.J. to San Diego but I do not know how to contact them. Have contacts with some from Mexicali but distance is too much to get them their. I already
got the D.J. using one from Brawley that does a great job but also having to pay travel time. Thanks for any heads up and if you know what they are

For our mom's birthday we got the Bonita Vista High School Mariachi group to play. All they wanted was a donation to their band program. A group of
about a dozen kids & the music director showed up at the backyard fiesta and played for nearly an hour - they were FABULOUS!!!DENNIS - 12-19-2008 at 08:48 AM
I hope price is no object. Judgeing from what they charge below the border, the quote you'll hear up north will probably take your breath away.
The Mariachi groups etc. in Mexico have their own union and you should be able to access that in Tijuana and they would be able to steer you in the
right direction for a San Diego based group.
Also, I've heard of high schools in the Hispanic areas which are training students in Mariachi as a means to preserve culture. Who knows?Bajafun777 - 12-19-2008 at 09:15 AM
Thanks, I will check out all the suggestions. I know that the cost will be different depending on where I access the Mariachi Band from. Hopefully,
you only do this once with your kids so going for a good thing. After almost 34 years of marriage time just flies when you are having fun!!

I work at Chula Vista High School and our group, "Mariachi Chula Vista" does just what you're asking for. The teacher in charge is Mark Folgelquist.
You can probably contact him through the school office (our phone system just changed so you'll have to look up that number.) This is an award
winning group made up mainly of high school students with a few alumni hanging on. They are really good, but do keep busy, and do charge quite a bit.
They may have a web site, to book there as well. You won't regret it if you get them, they are great, can't wait to hear them at our Christmas

I just got back from the assembly and the marachi's were great. The soloist just belted out her song, she's a little girl, but what a voice! She was
great! The students were chanting "otra", but alas, only one song per group.

Good suggestions and I have emailed several of them to get what their prices are. It appears the costs are running anywhere from $250 to $350 dollars
depending on the mariachi. Heard that one person that is a nomad does some mariachi and U2U him next. Thanks, and I will check with any and all
