1. Is the access to and route open? (Some chatter, experiences, and questions... but nothing definitive here lately). If you've been that way in

2. Can someone give me ~ or direct me to simple directions from the SY crossing to the Toll Road... It has been 2 years since I've done the
southbound drive... and I'd like a copy next to me... (solo trip). I know the sinage is crappy / confusing, so something accurate would be most
appreciated.
I did a search on Nomad ("toll road access", "toll road directions", and just "toll road", and I read all the posts (seems old posts have been
deleted...??) so please don't tell me to "just do a search"... doesn't help... thanks..
Sheesh... I've driven N several times and flown N & S many times lately... but I find myself not anticipating the TJ to Ensenada gauntlet...

I agree with David.
But..
If you are coming South on the 5 or the 805, it is easiest to cross at Otay Mesa (I-905 from either freeway), take the entry point to the first
traffic light and turn left (toward the Tecate toll road). It will be about 4 miles. Just before you enter the Tecate toll road, turn right when you
see a big four lane on the right. That will be the Boulevard 2000. It drops you just below Rosarito. Turn left and you will enter the toll road just
before Puerto Nuevo.
Keep in mind that the toll road is under construction in several areas below Puerto Nuevo, and you will end up merging to the opposite side several
times. Also, Mextrans may not have cleaned up all the slides from this past week's rains.

Udo, I agree with YOU! The Blvd. 2000 route is a lot better as it avoids all that downtown TJ traffic that merges with the road, soon after entering
Mexico.
djh asked for these directions, it wasn't my endorsement of the route to take to Ensenada.
I have complete Blvd. 2000 directions posted in the Nomad Road Conditions forum, with photos, mileages and driving times...

PS, udowinkler I drove Notrhbound that way last year... it was good (though wet, rough, and full of debris), but because of the recent rains, I'm more
likely to do the SY / Toll Road route this trip. Thanks for the suggestion.
Blvd 2000 took quite a hit with this last rain. Lots of water, mud and large rocks in the road. Be very careful.djh - 12-19-2008 at 05:20 PM

THANKS ! That's what I was hearing.... Just in case the weather improves . . . It used to be that southbound on the Blvd 2000, getting onto the
remainder of the Toll Road Southbound was a mess.... Is that still the same case, or has a decent merger from Blvd to 1D / Toll Road been built?

i was on the blvd 2000 road yesterday
DO NOT drive this road when its raining
LOTS of water left from the day before and MUD
mud slides and rivers from the day before
there were a hundred workers shoveling the road yesterday
it should be fine for the weekend
yesterday lots of mud on the sides of the road all the way to el rosario
the road was all clear and fast
made it home to mulege in one loooong day
i really think the tj crossing is much easier that otay
the road is much better also

Drove it today, Saturday, and the mud wasn't a problem. First trip going both south and north.. Went south 3 weeks ago and it was great. Today came
home and missed the directions for going from the toll road to road 2000.. Went in to Rosaritta and turned around and went back our at 8:30 am for a
2 1/2 hours crossing. Our US imagration man told me that at four PM a day or two ago it was over 3 hours to come back to the states from Baja......

We have always taken Ave. Internacional along the border fence and never had a problem. However I would not use it after a rain storm as it does

When coming North on the toll road, and wishing to take Blvd. 2000, is it not faster to go through the next toll booth and double back down on the

If you exit at Puerto Nuevo and drive north on the old/ free road the ~7 miles to the Blvd. 2000 entrance, you will find it is mostly 4 lane road now
(on the free road).
It is sure a shame that the on/ off ramps between Blvd. 2000 and the toll highway (1-D) could not have benn completed or included in the budget for

David- Any idea how long they've been working on 2000? A while back, I stumbled on it, while driving the Tecate free road. Ramps were open, but signs
were covered-up. Took a chance and turned North. Unfortunately, the connecting ramps to the Tecate Toll Road had not yet been built, forcing me to

Just returned last night from Otay 3 hour wait at 1:30 pm, towing a 19 ft toy hauler got pulled into secondary got checked no problem but could not
pull out there where cars parked everywhere blocking lanes with no drivers, took over 45 min. to manuver with little help from agents, what a mess
that place is will never go out there again. Comming in was great at 8:30am with a load did not pull into declare, guard stoped us pulled over looked
in trailer let us go. Had a great week in San Ignacio.
