Loreto Malecon Tour

Don Alley - 12-20-2008 at 07:23 PM

The new lighthouse, still awaiting a light...

Fishing at the marina...

New, attractive garbage cans at the city beach...

The former Koko Loco, now repainted and renamed Koko Chang...

And next to Koko Chang, a new restaurant is on the way...

more coming...

Those first two are awesome. Thanks for letting us see them!!

nice photos...hey, we were in loreto a few days ago and I was dying to eat at my fav place ...the place next to sukasa that had fabulous croissants and baked goods...and darn...it was closed....anyone know if they moved and where to?

Don Alley - 12-20-2008 at 07:36 PM

No regrets...

Now I don't know, but I've been told, that this building has Loreto's first and only elevator! However, work stopped in the summer and has not resumed, another rumor is that the money ran out and there are no buyers for the condos.

Paseo Hidalgo, newly repaved. The center median was removed and the sidewalks widened.

Two shots of the newly rebuilt Hotel Mision. One of its two restaurants is now open, and rooms should be available any day now. 74 rooms, 14 of which will be timeshares.

That's all, folks!

Shari, the bakery is gone, and the restaurant that was upstairs lives on as Los Mandiles, about a block north of the old location. It is one door south of the VERY visible Mediterraneo, and has great food at a reasonable price.

Here's a shot of Mediterraneo, with Los Mandiles to the left...

There's a coffee place and bakery now on this block. Note that "Nellie's Place" seems to have gone...

This restaurant is pretty good too, especially for fish...

Another street ready to be paved. This one, Salvatierra, is the preferred route to the Centro Historico for the Cruise Ship People...

This worker up at the Mision Hotel's top floor wanted me to take his picture. Or maybe he was trying to sell me a time share...

Mexican ingenuity

We too miss Santa Lucia bakery. We did find, however, that Los Mandiles is owned by the same people and if you go in the morning and ask to purchase baked goods, you can. Unless this has changed since our last visit in April, we are hoping to delight in their wonderful baked goods next week. You are also correct about their great (and reasonable) food.

Looks like no more pelicanos ? (spelling) at the old mission hotel
we used to stay in the apt on the top floor when we flew down.
Used to see some awesome sights in the pool

Looks different than the Loreto I first saw in '73... or even last saw in '01 !

Thanks for the photos!

Didn't know sharks were so handy with photo-shop.
Pretty funny Sharks B

Great pix. Last summer, the streets were all torn up with what I guess was a sewer project. Couldn't get to the market going down Salvatierra from the circle. Was frustrated. Am I the only one who gets lost driving around Loreto?

Don't know how I missed this one before! I love city tours---and yours are a really good one---

Thanks

I am north of the lighthouse by a mile. Tonite for the first time there is a light going around in it. We were sitting outside wondering what that strange shadow was on our sidewall...sure enough...the lighthouse!

Small wonders..
