We're heading to Baja after Christmas. We have to swing by Tucson for family stuff and I planned on crossing the border at Sonoyta and taking HW2 to
San Luis. Can you work your way from there to the San Felipe highway without going through Mexicali?
We want to head south from San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay, Cocos Corner, Bahia de Los Angeles, then on to San Rafael and Punta San Francisquita. We've
done this route many times but it's been two years (we did mainland coast last year, missed Baja!). Any changes in camping, road conditions we should
be aware of? We usually camp at Campo Beluga in Gonzaga Bay (or stay on Papa Fernandez' beach), Antonio's campo Archelon in BOLA, and that poor
derelict (and getting more so with each visit) place at San Francisquita on the beautiful white sandy beach.
I'd rather go back to BOLA the same way - never went out on the El Arco road to Geurrero Negro when it didn't fry my nerves from the conditions!
Any recent reports are appreciated and hope to run into a few of the usual Baja idiots while down there!

The easiest way would be to just take Mex 2 from San Luis Rio Colo. to Mexicali, taking the toll road before you get to Mexicali. It will drop you on
Mex 5, south of Mexicali and south of where the regular 2 comes in.
Some road construction about 15 miles north of San Felipe (widening it to 4 lanes) but doesn't interfere with traffic flow, just something to watch
out for.
