Just for the record: I do not support overuse/overfishing by anyone - the pangueros, the commercial fishermen, or the recreational fishermen.
It’s time to give back by not taking… (“354,013 people, most all of them international visitors, fished in Los Cabos”) Jeez… That ecological impact
has to be at least as significant as the commercial fishers…

working on a short one now of my solo trip, but we'll see if I post it. I was under a lot of stress then...
This video might be three years old, but the issues, I feel are still important...

I owned and operated a Panga for 27 years, have fished and helped my good friends in their Quest to make a living for those years, raising their
families and for the ones I know not making very much morney over the years.
This year from Mulege South to Tambechice the Fishing was Fantastic. I personally observed fishing as it was 15 years back and Longer. The result of
good fishing in the Sea of Cortez also did the same for the pacific Side{Check out Shari's Post}.
Do not do you Viedos and stories with a Spin_ Just do them with a Truth.

I enjoyed every moment on the water with these guys and in many ways I admire their lifestyle and work ethic. In some ways its a bit like ranching...
As for spin - that's a good point. As I chose clips for this version I was thinking that I simply wanted the action to tell the story. But just so
you know, I did leave out the part where they hit a sealion with a spear, and when they kicked with frustration the dead and unwanted fish/eels
overboard, and when they tried to throw and skip like a stone across the water an unwanted ray. Desperation to feed your family is one thing, respect
for the source that feeds you yet another. Indiscriminate fishing, such as longlining, shrimping and gillnetting, is a crapshoot that hurts
ecosystems and thus the people.
Still, in another life (where there's maybe a million people on the planet) I might have become a fisherman rather than a rancher. Some choices are
made by powers beyond the self. And some are conscious choices.
In the meantime I'm working on returning to Baja and all that it is ...

After all my years and esperiences on the Sea of Cortez I never saw a disrespect of the Fish, Mantas, or more. Of Course much has changed as the
Americans/Canadians came with their TV and ways of treating Everybody.
We as Americans do not have the "Right" to tell the Mexicano People how to live their Life,.expecially if it reflects "Our Way of Life"'. We have many
more terrible problems with our Society than the mexicanos do with their Fishing Habits.

So that you all may Know.
Living at San Nicholas where there was no Electrical and only one Refridg. of Propane was and experience in doing without.
Arise very early with Pappa Murillo, Chico, Juan, get into a Panga and head North of the island to fish for "Pargettee".
125lb. test line with a peice of rebar dropped to about 300 Ft.. When yo got a good bite you must bring it up fast to keep the Sharks from getting it.
Handlining a 60 LOb fish 3000 feet is "Damn hard Work.""
Fishing for Shark with Enrique near the Island catching a 400 Lb Dusky on a Rod and Reel then spending 20 minutes killing it and getting it into the
Panga with the others sometimes up to 2,000 Lbs of Shark.
Going to the Beach where the Fisherman's wifes would Filte the Shark, Salt it, Hang it over the Fence to dry, then it was bundled into 16 Kilos taken
to the raod and sold toa Passing Buyer who sent it to Mesico city fo to be used in Tacos.
The money Enrique made for a months work went to pay for having his Wife's Teeth fixed. Several nites she kept me awake with her Pain- Pain Medicine

The Panguero does not fish with Long Lines gregg. That is another kind of fishing.
The Panga fisherman use hadlines and there were a few who used nets and Spearguns which is now illegal;
Many years ago I observed two Panga owners arrested and their Pangas confiscated because they where using nets and Speaguns.
And guess what?? This was way before the natl. Park came into being.
