New high tide

Osprey - 1-11-2009 at 11:08 AM

The biggest high tide for the New Year sure made an impression down here at East Cape. Ate our whole beach and then some -- probably 200 meters or more.

:P:lol::light::no:

Woody, don't get me started. I think it might be an example of Selective Atropism. That's a technical weather term I just made up. It means that sometimes it is cold somewhere while somewhere else it is warm. I really don't know how that could be. There is growing evidence that sometimes it is actually the other way around.

For instance, the glaciers on Mt. Shasta are reported to be actually increasing in the last few years.

Go figure.

It looks like someone built on the Federal zone.

It's just the normal early January astronomical high tides here in Rosarito. I actually look forward to this annual "beach cleaning". Today was the last day... bummer.

And yes, that's my FMZ concession under water...

dogded a bullet this time. next weekend the surf is gonna be LARGE! woulda loved to see the action with a huge swell and a huge tide...

Paulina, you bring up an interesting phenomenon. About a dozen years ago the fishing co op here was granted a huge beach concession for their boating/fishing -- about l kilometer by 100 meters. ZMAT put in new mojones which proclaim the boundaries for 15 years. Since that time north winds have added another 200 meters. The governor built palapas all up and down the beach on what now, otherwise would belong to our new marina project to be built where ejido land existed. Looks like God wanted to help our children have a place to splash about, preserve, for a little while the fishermen's way of life. There's much more in my photo than water slapping the shore.

Yes we have global warming and all the other technical terms the people smarter than me give it, but lets not blame this high and low tide on all of that stuff.

I believe the reason is for yesterdays extreme tides is that last night was the closest the moon will be to earth all of 2009 and that is why the pulls of the moon in regards to the tides are so radical this time.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Where do you think the term "astronomical high tide" comes from? :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Howard - 1-11-2009 at 04:15 PM

Probably from the same guy who coined the term "blue moon" or "lunatic"
