Hi all,
Anyone ever see a vertical gas powered wood splitter for sale either new or used at a segunda?
My neighbor said he found one at a segunda in San Quintin, he bought it for 200 pesos, the guy who sold it thought it was for taking tires off of
rims!
We have really big chunks of oak, like 3-4 feet in diameter, its too much to do by hand.
I love Segundas!

I just asked Hubby and he confirmed what I thought...
log splitters like the one pictured above will not do 3-4' rounds. They are for smaller diameter wood, maybe up to 2'. There are big log splitters
that can be found segunda (but probably not in Mexico...) It's something you'd find in the back woods of the greater Northwest including Canada.
Ask around for a couple young strapping lads. They can make short work of it with a couple of mauls and wedges. For a few bucks (or beers of they
are over 21) they can quarter the big logs and then you can use a small splitter like the one pictured above to get them down to a smaller wedge.

Hey all,
Hmmm well I've used the vertical ones before but it was one hooked up to the pto of a tractor. It works much better for bigger stuff cause all you
have to do is roll rather than lift the big log into the path of the wedge.
I do have a 75 hp Ford NH tractor so maybe I should inquire at the maneadero dealership to see if Ford makes one. might be cheaper since you're not
paying for a motor.

astrobaja, Jeez! If you can load 3 to 4 foot diameter rounds, splitting 'em should be easy.
The normal splitters are good for 24" rounds.

Get yourself a Monster maul and start making slabs off the outside. That is the trick. With big sticks you can't split them in half. Splitting wood
isn't work, it's fun. Now if they were 3-4' dry rounds of Madrone that would be some real big fun.
