May I ask one more time?

Sur flo 12 volt pump.........the best? I'm ready to buy, lost the web site...........can anyone help?

DC Pump

Russ - 1-13-2009 at 12:59 PM

I'm looking for my records. I'll add what I bought and why in a few minutes.
Extreme™ Series Smart Sensor™ 5.7 is what I have gone with. No need for a pressure tank and it has worked perfect since I installed it. Not cheap but then top end usually isn't. I've used, probably, 7 or 8 differant pumps both AC & DC and this is the best so far. Here's a site with more info. http://www.shurflo.com/pages/Marine/marine_categories/potabl... Or Google Shureflo and look around for a good price.

Most RV dealers and Solar Stores carry them. Search --Solar and you will find a supplier near you. They are inexpensive and work fine without a pressure tank- even in a fairly large house --

a small 12 volt pump without a pressure tank may cycle as your toilet begins to fill and the water flow slows. A small pressure tank, even one or two gallons takes care of this inconvenience. At night when going back to sleep is when it seems to bother most. I would suggest a pressure tank.

Here's one of many.......

If you want more, Google Sur-Flo water pump.

The Surflow 12 volt pump is a really good pump if you have a small home and use a pressure tank. We had one in our last place, its super reliable and uses much less power than a 120v pump, which is a big plus if you're solar.

It has some down sides though, the water pulsates as it's discharged from the pump which means you will need a pressure tank to keep the flow stable. Also, if you don't use a large enough pressure tank, you're water temp will vary up and down a lot when you take a hot shower. We had an 80 gallon tank with the 12v Surflow "premium" pump and had no problems.

I've never heard of the pump Russ suggested, might be nice not to have to use pressure tanks.

We use a Conergy flowlight booster pump ( http://www.conergy.us/desktopdefault.aspx/tabid-161/230_read...)

This pump is a bit more powerful and more reliable than the Surflow, but it would be overkill unless you have multiple sinks/showers/drip system/washer etc.

I would recommend this pump though if you have or anticipate having a larger demand. We've been very happy with it.

Oh...these guys have pretty good prices: http://store.solar-electric.com/shacdcwapu.html

Deb: Doc recommended that you keep the flow (GPM) at 2.8 or higher. I first got a Sureflo Whisper King at 2.0 but replaced it with a 2.8. More noise but there is an up-side to the noise - if you have a slow leak you'll hear the pump burp from time to time. I got mine on eBay.

So Jim, is Camp Gecko more like Camp Nomad? Since it is closed to us campers, how about some photos of the changes Doc has made or that you residents have made in there?

Thanks!

PS, any more fires at Nana's house?

Pescador - 1-14-2009 at 09:29 AM

Here is where I found the best prices on the premium pumps. Shurflo does not reccomend using the variable for house usage and they usually give out sooner, which makes they pretty expensive. I have a friend who went through two of those in San Bruno before going to the straight pump which has lasted over two years.

Also: if you are not going to have a shower - the 2.0 or less is ok. Do a google search for low-flow shower heads as you will need one with the 2.8gpm.

Hi David,

You may not be able to camp there, but you can still walk in there the next time you're in town. By the way, I thought you knew that Nana gave up her lease about 6 years ago or so. Nomad Martyman has it now.

edit: Deb, check your u2u, por favor!

Yes, I knew... but I didn't know what else to call it other than Baja Nana's place!

Your mom was very kind in letting the kids and I stay upstairs after our Lost Mission Hunt in 2002... it was acold night and we were late returning to Gecko!

Paulina - 1-14-2009 at 11:09 AM

Martyman probably wondered why the bathroom walls were black...

David K - 1-14-2009 at 11:54 AM

How is Beach Bob? Too bad he never got to making the weekly posts here on life at Bahia.

I saw a for sale sign on his driveway...?

David K - 1-14-2009 at 12:01 PM

So Bob is okay and not moving?

David,
The house for sale is as Soulpatch said, Bob's neighbor to the north. Bob was at Bedman's New Year's Eve dinner and looked great. Talked Dern's ear off. I don't think he's going anywhere soon. His dog Shadow had just passed away.

Was this Shadow? I have it as 'Fred/Ted/George' in the caption...

One of my favorite Beach Bob photos (New Year's 2002):

La Casa de Beach Bob:

By far the photo that says '4baja' the best, taken that night:

(Thanks to Bedman for these photos)

Paulina - 1-14-2009 at 08:40 PM

You know David, I don't know if that's Shadow or not. She was black, but the face doesn't look right to me.

It's another mystery.

Debra - 1-23-2009 at 02:09 PM

David, since you have friend at Gecko all you need to do is let me know and you can use my place.

P: I don't know if you heard, Shadow died while I was down there.

The house to the north of Bob is Mike and Virginia's which is for sale and I belive there is an Ad here in the real estate section.......Don't buy it though, I will miss them too much if they leave

David K - 1-23-2009 at 02:16 PM

Thanks Debra... I am sure it would have been more comfortable for us than what we experienced at the motel!

Doesn't anyone have photos of the 'homes' at Camp Gecko to show us?

Where is Bedman and his camera...? The photos above came from him!
