Gaucho - 1-14-2009 at 09:11 AM

Does anybody know if it's possible to access my Bancomer acct. via the internet from here in so. cal?

Bob and Susan - 1-14-2009 at 09:41 AM

yes but you need to have permission from bancomer to acess any account fron the internet

Gaucho - 1-14-2009 at 09:48 AM

So would I contact Bancomer corporate or the branch office where my account is?

shari - 1-14-2009 at 10:08 AM

you have to register at bancomer for online banking and they give you a little package with a special card for it but it works very well once you get it set up.

Gaucho - 1-14-2009 at 11:22 AM

Thanks Shari. Can I register online or do I need to go into the Los Cabos branch where my account is?

shari - 1-14-2009 at 11:49 AM

why dont you call them and ask...dont know how you would get the plastic card on line....suerte

Gaucho - 1-14-2009 at 12:26 PM

I was assuming the little package was going to come in the mail...

Woooosh - 1-14-2009 at 12:32 PM

Mail? They don't mail out the ATM cards here in Rosarito. You need to go to YOUR branch, pick them up and then sign-up for any online services (which were all in Spanish last time I checked).

Here's the phone numbers that are on the paperwork enclosed with the card. I have not set up on line banking so not much help there....

Thanks everybody. Next time I'm in BCS I'll stop by my branch and set it up. I was just hoping there was an easy way to set up an online account from here in so. cal. All I want is access to my account via the internet so I can keep an eye on the little bit of money I have in this account. I don't really need the atm card.

shari - 1-14-2009 at 01:39 PM

it's not an ATM card...it's an electronic banking card to interface with their online banking site...not for use in bank machines...maybe you can get it UPS'ed but I doubt it...usually ya have to go to the bank.

Bancomer just plan frustrates the &%$out of me. I have inmigrado status now and have had a dollar account with them for more than 12 years and 3 fideocamisos and they tell me I have to go to the municipal building to get a proof of residence card before I can open a peso account to bank on line. I hope for every ones sake this is a Santa Rosalia/Mulege thing. Good LUCK!

longlegsinlapaz - 1-14-2009 at 04:54 PM

As others have mentioned, you do have to sign up in person at your branch, what no one has mentioned is that there's a $30-50 peso per mo. (I forgot exact amount) charge for on-line service whether you activate it & use it or not. Because it's in Espanol, it makes it difficult to set up unless you're fluent. I wasn't & ended up having a Mexican friend set it up for me, but that person & 2 others could NEVER ACCESS it...the bank could & did...on the same day I'd reached the end of my patience & had them cancel the on-line access & turned my card back in! If you want this to monitor a small amount of funds, it's likely the monthly fees could rapidly eat up your balance & then incur additional charges & move you into a negative balance. So you might want to reconsider how important on-line access really is for you.:(

Thanks Shari. I keep forgetting this is "baja banking" we're talking about. That's ok, it gives me yet another reason to come down there. Like I need one! :tumble:

Russ, Longlegs and Morgaine, thanks for the first hand input and local knowledge. I have $300 US in this account. I haven't checked on it since Oct. of '03 :lol::lol: I just hope it's still there!!

Russ - 1-15-2009 at 06:11 AM

I think the easiest way is to go to any Bancomer branch and ask for a copy of your statement. That's what I do every couple months. They use to mail out statements, Many years ago.

if its a private dollar account the minimum is $500 balance. your account will be wiped out if this is accurate. i have to pay 200 pesos plus iva for the full use of my private peso/dollar account internet set up. i can buy pesos during exchange hours, make payments in pesos 24/7, pay my taxes 24/7, buy stuff online etc. frustrating to figure out cut once you do its worth it! with all the security issues regarding other banks I now believe bancomer's site is very powerful and secure. you have to go to your branch, in person and with id to set this up... and you'll need a peso account connected to that dll account for it to be available, can't just have a dollar account.

not completely true, as long as you have all of the information on the account and its FREE. if you have a peso account you can access it and look at activity and print the statement BUT you have to authorize permission and pay for the full use of the account like making payments to third parties etc. this is not available for dollar accounts like it is for pesos/libreton.

anyone who has a dollar account at their Mex bank should consider also opening a peso account and activating their bank's full online capabilities. you can buy pesos when you need them...right now at 14,17:1 you will get the preferred customer exchange rate by doing this online vs walking in and exchanging in person, and saves time too!

shari - 1-15-2009 at 11:28 AM

about the proof of residence...all mexicans have to present this proof...sometimes it can be a phone or electric bill...or the delegacion will write you up a letter of residency you can make copies and use it for all these Tramites..it is very very common to have to present this proof.

good idea pam on the $ account

Gaucho - 1-15-2009 at 11:41 AM

This is a dollar account and is under my wifes name who has Mexican citizenship if that makes a differance.

flyfishinPam - 1-15-2009 at 12:48 PM

citizenship doesn't matter for that minimum balance fee, yours will have been accumulated since 2003? don't be surprized if Bancomer is looking for that account holder because they owe money as they'll have a negative balance.

However ... I don't have the full online service that Pam describes, just the basic service to monitor activity and get statements.

Thanks Morgaine. If I remember correctly, when we opened the account they told us what the minimums were etc. We have basic service as well.

Edit: typo

The last time I inquired at the bank they told me there was a $3.00 per month fee to use their online banking.
