Although trying to save the New York times is like flushing that money down the toilet...

Couldn't he have saved the conroy Gringo Gazetter first?:o

The LA times story states that if and when Slim exercises the warrants, he will own approximately one third of the company, making him the largest shareholder. Can't say that I want to see the New York Times go the way of Comp USA, however.

As for the Gringo Gazette, I'm not aware of why it folded. lack of advertising because of lack of tourists? All I know is in its better days, it was still only a shadow of Carrie Duncan's paper. Haven't checked in a few months, but i remember Duncan's Gazette publishing like 60 pages per issue.

I think all print newspapers are going to go away- except maybe the Sunday editions. I read the San Diego UT on-line every day- same exact paper but in electronic form (paid subscription). On Sunday I get the full paper delivered to my Rosarito doorstep. There is something about enjoying the full paper Sunday mornings (with all the extra sections) with a cup of coffee that let's you know it's a day to kick back and relax.

IMHO the Gringo Gazette (norte version) was a victim of simply telling the truth when no one wanted to hear it (it closed during the very ugly times of the cuoto carjackings and shootings ). I don't it was for lack of ads. There was some excuse about conflict of names- but I don't think that is what stopped her. But when Iggy left for the states after his last kidnap attempt- he took all the marketing dollars for Rosarito Beach with him. Both are still gone.

I think Conroy was chased out of town for being excessivly outspoken. We've torn this apart in the past but, maybe it's time to do it again.
OK...On three, everybody kick Nancy. ONE....TWO.....

Don't know the exact details, nor the outcome, but as you probably know, Carrie was the founder of the Northern Edition. Carrie was vague about the circumstances, but she did assert that Conroy highjacked the paper. Duncan sued Conroy to regain control. That was 2--3 years ago.

Dennis,

As related by Carrie Duncan (publisher of the Gringo Gazette in Cabo San Lucas) ...

Duncan filed suit against Conroy a number of years ago over ownership of the Northern GG.

Carrie Duncan recently prevailed in court and Conroy was disinfranchised.

This is as it was presented in the GG several months ago.

Thanks Ron.......

So, Duncan is responsible for closing it down?

GG seems to be treating Duncan well. Has anyone been to her new Supper Club "Scoop" in Cabo San Lucas?

Maybe she got a monetary settlement from Conroy. There is a web site for Scoop. It's four blocks uptown from the main drag. Trying to figure out what property it is. The building houses the Gringo Gazette, the Scoop Supper club and a boutique hotel. The website implies that David Flores (great guy) has a financial interest in it. I'm also thinking that since their executive chef is the guy that held the same position for the Pueblo Bonito's many restaurants, he may as well. Couldn't find any other hits for it on search using the usual sites. So, it must be brand new. Gee. Carrie Duncan and a supper club. Never would have guessed. Nice going, Carrie and good luck.
