Just a question, I recently drove to baja in my jeep and am wondering how long I can keep it there (its has mexican insurance and has not been
imported)??
Thanks

Unless you are a Mexican, or have a the proper visa (FM-3, FM-2)... you cannot leave any property behind in Mexico when you come home from your
vacation. The FM-T is a 'tourist card', and 'tourists' don't leave property behind in Mexico... as they would no longer be tourists, but part or full
time residents. If you want to leave property or obtain property in Mexico, then you need an FM-3.
TONS about the FM-3 online...

Then you have no legal protection... unless you are a Mexican.

I left my Jeep near you in Baja for as long as one year at a time. Leave it with someone you trust.
My understanding is that when I left it there and returned to the US it was considered abandoned property. I of course carried Mexican Insurance, but
if it had disappeared I understood I probably would have no claim for loss.
This was a great way for me to fly into Cabo, travel one hour to my destination, and then use the Jeep to explore areas I otherwise would not have
time to see.
Have fun!

Heike,
Not to change the subject but do know of any lots for sale on the beach in Los Barilles? We were there two weeks ago and loved it. We think thats the
place for our retirement home.
Thanks

As sd said... YOU can do whatever you want... it just has no legal protection without being a legal part time resident (FM-3).
Sure it's done by a lot of gringos... but, when your illegally left behind Jeep is stolen or it was used to transport drugs or guns by the thiefs,
who are you going to get help from? What legal argument will you use in a Mexican court?
Please be careful!

Yes I will be careful, I have a garage and the place is buttoned up quite well, thanks for all the advice
