It's 1980....and you just won tho lotto!

surfer jim - 1-29-2009 at 08:20 PM

Here's the situation....it is now 1980 (or 1990 for the younger folks).....drug cartels not yet invented....the "good old days " of BAJA have returned.
You , my friend, have just won the lotto and ....there is a surplus of spending money available.:o What would you do , buy, ect?

Let me start....I would have a BAJA BUG that has been fixed up with all the "good stuff"...and surf racks... for exploring.

Next would be a early TOYOTA 4WD...the one with solid front axle...shell, w/racks.....for luxury travel.

A CHENOWTH 2 seater buggy for racing....BAJA 500 AND 1000.

ZODIAC boat for coastal fishing.

Small house in San Felipe (or BOLA) ....and another on west coast around Rosarito......trailer in ABREOJOS to really get away.

What is your dream?

The Sculpin - 1-29-2009 at 08:42 PM

A single engine over wing tail drager with big balloon tires
A quiver going from 4'6" kneeboards to a 9' gun
A noserider
Panga with fishing and freediving equipment and a strong underwater light
A 1980 4x4 suburban Silverado
A nice palapa at San Juanico, LA Bay, Punta Estrella, and Boca de Tule
My wife
That should do it.

Gaucho - 1-29-2009 at 08:54 PM

I'd come in by sea.

80' Feadship with a really nice inflatable on deck.
Definately a quiver of boards from 6'6"-8'
Like Sclulpin I would have all the freediving gear
Multiple rods, mountain bikes, windsurfers etc...
Multiple surf shacks from San Miguel to 9 Palms
Lots of good friends
Wife optional (just kiddin' honey)

castaway$ - 1-29-2009 at 10:09 PM

It wouldn't be San Felipe or Rosarito, maybe Bola. I'd be thinkin further south, maybe Mulege or Todos Santos, but I love it the further south I go.

Bajahowodd - 1-29-2009 at 11:52 PM

I'd get a villa on Santorini, pig out on Souvlaki, and chill with massive amounts of ouzo. Apologies to Baja.

woody with a view - 1-30-2009 at 06:58 AM

i would do puerto escondido, oaxaca all over again, at least in the summer months. maybe hide among the cardons in the winter or be a true snow bird and head (more) south for the winter. i'm actually still happy with baja. you can get out there where there are no other humans for miles.... the worst days in baja are still better than the best days NOB, if you leave out the cartel!:light:

4baja - 1-30-2009 at 07:22 AM

wouldnt change much except for a larger boat that i could sleep on and a early toyota with independant suspension for the washboard.

BajaWarrior - 1-30-2009 at 07:26 AM

I want all new stuff!

pappy - 1-30-2009 at 08:31 AM

since we are dreaming-i'd buy up as much of the central coast as possible.have a dune buggy of sorts, a couple of motorcycles for desert travel a one ton 4x4 truck. a little ranch house along the coast and a helicopter for exploring(or maybe an ultra-lite kind of flying machine) and of course a shaping and glassing set up so i can fix or make boards as necessary.

that's the short list anyway:yes:

Cyanide41 - 1-30-2009 at 08:40 AM

well I wasn't old enough to win the lottery in 1980 OR 1990.... so let's say it was 2000. I'd have a small plane. Some type of OHV play toy. Lots of motorcycles and a nice sprawling ranch somewhere in Baja Sur. Most of it would get put in the bank and I'd live off the interest.

surfer jim - 1-30-2009 at 09:16 AM

I would like to be the salesman when WARRIOR comes in to buy.....:bounce:

never thought about a helicopter.....but that would be a great way to travel...especially to beat the washboard roads......

Well, in my defense, they were all purchased one at a time over many years, not a lottery purchase...

The "fleet" has changed, differant but nearly identical SuperDuty, newer pair of Jet Ski's, same Toyota, added '85 Bronco ll, added wheelbarrow, and down to 5 quads, none of them pictured here.

The Westcoast BayRunner was sold to Minnow and the 14' Mirrocraft sold to a neighbor down south. Looking to get a replacement BayRunner next year.

Martyman - 1-30-2009 at 10:39 AM

After I won I would get drunk for a year. Then...get a harem of mexican dental assistants and maybe go fishing once in a while.

dtbushpilot - 1-30-2009 at 12:27 PM

I'd donate my winnings to the government to be used in the stimulus plan. They would already have half, might as well give them the rest. I'd probably just get in trouble anyway.....dt

I would buy nothing.

In baja what matters most is the land, the sea, and the stars.;D;D

Graham Macintosh has it right!

Natalie Ann - 1-30-2009 at 04:57 PM

What would I buy? Time off work - so I could head South!

Nena

Lauriboats - 1-30-2009 at 05:00 PM

I am very happy and feel very lucky to have what I have. On the other hand, my husband is right there with you Gaucho and would want more.

Actually, I relate most to what Natalie Ann said. In my opinion, the most important thing money can buy is freedom. Then, you take that freedom and hopefully do good things with it.

If I won it back then, it would have been b.c. (before children) and my priorities would have been very different.

If I won it now, I would pay up both kids college tuitions in advance, set them up in comfortable digs, buy them reliable vehicles so they could visit me in Baja.

I'd buy a storage lot business to keep all of my Stateside treasures safe for my kids to decide if they want it "when they grow up" or sell it if they see fit. I'd let the income from the storage lot go to the kids and the business too someday.

I'd pay up one lease to last forever and buy out the other. I'd like a vw bus with the sides cut off so it looks like a covered wagon of sorts and that would be my transportation to and from town.

I'd make annonymous donations to the schools for uniforms and books, hospital/clinic, church, spay and neuter clinic, etc.

I'd bring my horse down.

I'd keep everything else pretty much the same.

Maybe I'd build a garage for Dern too.

Tomas Tierra - 1-31-2009 at 10:39 AM

I'd go buy a brand new MR twinny, and a brand new datsun 510 wagon, and a lid.......Then go surfin

woody with a view - 1-31-2009 at 10:42 AM

spot x or is is x marks the spot, or both?:?:

dtbushpilot - 1-31-2009 at 10:49 AM

I won the lottery in 2003 and it changed my life forever. I met and married the girl of my dreams.........dt

Before everyone jumps to the conclusion that a beautiful woman like Jill would only be with a slug like me is because I had just won the lottery I need to clarify that SHE is my winnings.........she must have done something very wrong in a past life to be stuck with the likes of me....dt

Bajahowodd - 1-31-2009 at 02:04 PM

Well, I guess we all know what dt is gonna be doing tonight....

Yep, eating a pizza and watching BJ Penn take the UFC middle weight title from George St. Pierre........with my sweetheart of course........dt

The Sculpin - 1-31-2009 at 06:11 PM

TT - would that be a 3 finger lid, or a 4 finger lid?

Tomas Tierra - 2-5-2009 at 01:42 PM

Scully...Four Fingahs!

DT, sorry about your little Hawaiian Bro...GSP is so freaking DOMINANT!!
Best thing to do was stop that fight when they did(or earlier!)

dtbushpilot - 2-5-2009 at 02:19 PM

Yea, I really didn't think he would win. My daughter was rooting for GSP so I took BJ to make it interesting. I don't see anybody on the horizon to challenge GSP, maybe he will move up to middleweight and challenge Anderson Silva....that would be something....

Sorry for the hijack.......dt

WHOA !!!!
