Cancun, Quintana Roo .- Two soldiers, including a retired general and close adviser to the mayor of Cancun security, along with a bodyguard, were killed allegedly by members of organized crime, authorities reported.

El cuerpo del general Enrique Tello Quiñónez fue encontrado junto con el de un teniente y un escolta, quienes también trabajaban para la alcaldía de Cancún, con visibles huellas de tortura y el tiro de gracia, en el paraje de una carretera cercana al balneario caribeño. The body of General Quiñonez Enrique Tello was found along with that of a lieutenant and a bodyguard, who also worked for the Mayor of Cancun, with visible marks of torture and shot in place of a road near the Caribbean resort.
This General only retired January 1st, 2009, guess his retirement was pretty short....

OK Baja Sur- so much for you being safer right now. How fast can you folks get back to the USA if it hits the fan? What emergency escape plan do you have?

At least in Baja Norte I can do my "run Forrest run" thing and get out of dodge fast!

"The bodies of a retired brigadier general and two other men were found yesterday in a SUV outside Cancun, the resort's mayor said. All had been shot many times.

Mayor Gregorio Sànchez identified the victims as retired army Brig. Gen. Mauro Enrique Tello, his assistant Tulio C6sar Romàn, an activeduty infantry lieutenant, and civilian Juan Ramirez.

Tello had been advising the city on security matters."

Ohhhhhh, now it makes a difference. I suggested before that postings of violence on the mainland had little to do with Baja, but nooooooooooo, the usual loose noodles made sure that I got a geography and socio-political reformation.

So Pam, get ready for the lectures. If you write..."hey this is a Baja board" It will cause greater attraction.

There have been other incidents of violence on the Yucatan peninsula in recent times, but given the incredible amount of people, the traffic and whatnot, I don't see it much different than, say LA. Seriously, having driven around Cancun, and all the way to Merida in 2008, I was stunned by the development. Hotel row notwithstanding, on the mainland, traffic reminded me of New york or Cairo. Point is that given the huge concentration of people, acts of random violence are to be expected.

The story gets worse... they broke both his kness, arms and wrists and there were burn marks on his body. Day one at his new job. The first story made it sound like a quick event.

good morning woooosh, I was questioning your mention of people in bcs needing an escape plan as being relevant to this particular story but now I can see where you're coming from. my bad too.

I don't believe that censoring information like this that is important to all of us wherever we live, is the right thing to do. Many events such as these that take place outside the boundaries of the baja peninsula DO or WILL have an effect on us who are in bcs or bc.

I just got done telling my nephew he and his fiance would be safe on vacation in that area of Mexico. I guess they are still safe- so far the bad guys are only killing the messengers, not the tourists. whew. And maybe this was not the narcos- they were far too respectful of the bodies.
