raining in Guerrero Negro and I see rain squals to the south of us...real close but nothing here yet...clear now to the west where the wind is coming from.

Rained here throughout the night and has continued on and off till now. Skys are dark and more rain is for sure on the way. I'm gonna stay inside today, play Christmas music and drink mass quantities of Noche Buena beer.

Correction from the earlier post of mine: The SKYS HAVE OPENED!!! Pouring in Oceanside right now...

(of course they are still saying we are in a drought and want to start water restrictions and raise water rates... )

well, it blew in from the sea and finally rained a bit here this afternoon for a few minutes off and on...we can see rain squalls all around us but it partly sunny at times between the rain...good rainbow day! hhhmmmm is it too early for a paralyser?

Barry, I am on an email list of a guy who lives in Canebrake, south of Agua Caliente. He has a Davis unit that's linked to a modem.

He reported only .09 inches as of this AM. Very little in the month before this. Probably the area north of Scissors Crossing got a bit more.

I expect an update within 24 hours.

I'd say you are still praying for rain down there, though.

Actually, one GOOD rainstorm CAN cure a long drought if you measure a "drought" by the levels of the man-made reservoirs. That is what we need here in the northstate------one REALLY GOOD rainstorm (or 4 would be better) to fill up Lake Shasta/Lake Trinity that are now as low as anybody can remember. That is all it takes--------- :spingrin:

Yes, but definitely not here---our reservoirs are way too low for one good storm to cure it---lots of other reasons go along with it, but hey, it isn't Baja so it is off topic.

Still off topic, but this article and others I have read here say that Anza Borrego is going to be beautiful with wildflowers.

Thanks, Diane----------good wildflowers in ABDSP means good wildflowers in Baja, too. We are sure hoping. We arrive in the Park in mid March, staying thru mid-April.

For the well being of the countryside, sustained rains totaling over 10 inches per year over many years is what is needed----on that we can agree. That is much better for all than occasional gullywashers.

The latest from Canebrake, ABDSP.........

Early yesterday afternoon some more Canebrake rain was measured bringing the storm total to 0.13". Nothing more as of 10 this morning. The season total, since July 1, is now 3.88".

Here in Newport Beach we had a very hard downpour just before 6am so there is still some moisture around. My total here at home is a little over 2" for the storm now. Big difference between the OC coast and Canebrake but that is why it's called the desert out there.

The local news has us more than 2" above 'normal' rainfall for this time of year... Of course, just like with the 'global warming' hysteria, who is to say what is "normal" when the earth is as old as it is?!

That excess rain coupled with the news that for the first time in (ever)(?), the California population has gone down with more people leaving than coming in, should be good news for the water shortage.

Now, if I could only get a few more people to have me change their wasteful sprinkler systems to state of the art water saving irrigation devices... I could plan my next Baja expedition!!! :light:
