New Breeds Appearing in Asuncion!!

shari - 2-8-2009 at 08:19 AM

Another junk yard dog breed appeared yesterday....meet "Rusty"!!!!

He is a real friendly guy who wags his tail alot and always wants you to throw the stick...he appears to have got off his rope and showed up at our amigos home....he's always cheerfully bouncing around and the neighbourhood dogs seem to like him too.

And he doesnt chase the chickens either which is nice!

My sister in law who lives next to the artist commented on how neat is was how Nancy always comes back from her walks and bike rides toting a bunch of junk...they thought she was cleaning up the town...which she is kind of...recycling.

Nancy has given us a new appreciation for garbage and has us keeping a sharp eye out for good rusty bits...stay tuned for her next breed!

How fun,

I think that the mermaid is still my favorite, but the dog is awful cute.

shari - 2-8-2009 at 10:11 AM

I'm thinking you guys might like a big iguana in your cool garden patio!

DianaT - 2-8-2009 at 10:13 AM

Really like the chickens----

Looks great; maintenance-free livestock !
I am glad that all the junk is finding good homes !
Last year, Pam got the "artist interest" and I had to bring home a box of metal junk.
It's still sitting in our garage !

BajaGringo - 2-8-2009 at 11:31 AM

Shari, let's do a website on these. I'll help...

shari - 2-8-2009 at 12:05 PM

good idea BG...these critters are popping up all over the village these days...Kevin has a new/old food free pet too and "Ode to Lucy" is on our outhouse roof so she doesnt get knocked up!

BajaGringo - 2-8-2009 at 04:50 PM

I put up a page Shari - send me what you have, the artists name and whatever info you have on them. I have some photos I have taken around here of some JunkArt I have seen up here. This could be fun...

BajaGringo - 2-8-2009 at 09:19 PM

Not even close. But nice first post newbie....

vgabndo - 2-8-2009 at 10:50 PM

Hey BG...can you carve out a little space for rock art? Just Baja stacked rocks. Rocks aren't junk, but you can find them laying around everywhere.:saint:

BajaGringo - 2-8-2009 at 11:20 PM

Yea, I just put up a temp page. We can add as many sections as we want...

vgabndo - 2-8-2009 at 11:28 PM

Cool...I don't have access to any at the moment but will be home soon I hope.

As an artist in an artisan community, this is so good! And I Love Lucy!! Last night was Art walk in my town, first Sat. each month, I sure wish the likes of this art was around town. We have good art here, but not like this.
Still think we should make the plastic bottles that fill up the landfill into art instead of waste.

Hey Monkey Newbie, real nice post, does BC mean British Columbia?? It could not mean Baja. No offense meant to British Columbians, only meant to the newbie who is not kind. Go back in Lurksville.

shari - 2-9-2009 at 07:50 AM

go for it tie die...cant wait to see your creations!
Now monkeynuts...we will DEAL with YOU later! oh and welcome nutbar...good to see you "coming out"....so which piece would you like to buy?...oops sorry, they are all spoken for! but you could put your order in for a unique piece...say...some lovely monkeynutz?

Since there used to be a pig farm where our homes are now, some of the locals still refer to our little beach as Pig Beach---so maybe a junk pig would be in order---:yes:

I had thought about pig figurines like pink flamingos before, but that just didn't wortk----

but a beautiful junk art rusted pig would look great, as would a plastic junk art pig----and so appropriate made from what is around there.

Now, if someone could just figure out a great art project for the non-refundable bottles-----maybe a mini Watts Tower?

I am really impressed with Nancy's work.

Her work is inspiring the stagnant artist in me. I'm thinking tie dyed junk yard dog. Segway..in Nepal, the children and the mokeys, yes real mokeys, flatten out 2 liter pop plastic and skateboard down the steps of Swyambu, the oldest Buddhist temple on this planet. They call it the Monkey Temple cuz the little critters hang out there. Cute little thieves, and I'm pretty sure they have formed a cartel.

Thank you, Shari

2-tie-dye-4 - 2-9-2009 at 10:51 AM

You're crakin me up, Shari.
How bout tie dyed monkey nuts?

wilderone - 2-9-2009 at 10:51 AM

Really cute - and no kidding - that rusty garden art is a big deal. Should sell it in the Vizcaino nursery.

2-tie-dye-4 - 2-9-2009 at 11:04 AM

I'm with ya trotters, I was totally digging the mermaid, but the dog is kinda making me share my loyalty, hee hee. The pig will be most excellent. Can't wait to see the junkyard Lucy on the roof at Shari and Juan's. Junkyard puppies??? piglets??? I'm already working on the plastic version, thanks Nancy. And Flamingo? OMG...going to the drawing board now.

Here's a submission to add to the site. I found a giraffe with no head, Cathy found it a head on the beach. It lives in my office in a place of honor.
