Mulegemichael and I were hiking through a canyon and came across a bush with beautiful berries on it...so, I took a shot. Maybe someone can tell me
what they are???

Interesting plant. The leaves remind me of manzanita, but I don't think that grows in Baja canyons.

Plenty of Manzanita growing in Baja--just gotta get off the beaten path...those look like Manzanita leaves but the fruit looks a little different to
me--where were you hiking, how high up? If in Mulege at low elevation its not likely Manzanita, but near the top of Tres Virgenes you might find some.
Any other pics to help out?shari - 2-9-2009 at 07:53 AM
I dthought the leaves looked like Jojoba and they may be jojoba berries/nuts...what did they taste like? My favorite berry here is the mini tomatoes
that should be out soon...teeny tiny sweet tomatoes that look like huckleberriesmarv sherrill - 2-10-2009 at 07:10 PM
Sorry- definitly not jojobaavid - 2-10-2009 at 08:30 PM
Beachgirl,
We need a little more information to aid in your quest.
What was the growth form? (tall, short, prostrate, etc.)
What was the size of the plant
where in the canyon was it growing, (side, bottom)
Where there many plants like it in the area?
Any other unrecognizable plants growing in the area?
What did the bark look like?
Finally, are you absolutely sure those berries were growing on the plant pictured? (I have seen Botanists get tripped up on this) ckiefer - 2-10-2009 at 08:48 PM
I wouldn't recommend tasting berries of unknown origin. Some are poisonous and can result in death. Martyman - 2-11-2009 at 12:12 PM
If it is Jojoba, look out for those Jojobas Witnesses. They are crazy bunch of shampoo makers!!Von - 2-11-2009 at 08:49 PM
