I'm trying to make a reservation to travel with my truck camper from Topolobampo to La Paz by ferry on March 28. I'm coming up with lot's of
conflicting info and no response by telephone. Does anybody know the status of this ferry route and how to contact the operator?
Thanks, Dave Gross (Colorado)

dgross I found this 'little' information on Fred Medcalf's board.

Wed. Sematur, the old ferry service, runs only their car ferry to Mazatlan. A newer business, Baja Ferries, runs a huge car
ferry to both Topolobampo and Manzanillo. Problem here is that
they will not take children or women on the trip. Instead they
offer to take the male driver with his car, suggesting that the woman and children take the fast tri maran which arrives the same morning at Topo.
Doesn't help much huh? That's all I remember seeing for a while.

OK, I am responding to my own inquiry because I have found the answer. The Topolobampo to La Paz and return trip are serviced by Linea California (as
of March 7, 2003).
The fare for a vehicle is 1,700 pesos (162 US Dollars)current exchange. This is a promotional fare for cars and small trucks if the length is not
longer than 5 mtrs (16ft 5") Extra Meter = $450 pesos ($43 US Dollars). This price includes One Person. Aditional Persons pay $500 Mexican pesos.
Departures daily at 10:00 pm for Topolobampo - La Paz and La Paz - Topolobampo.
Time Trip: 9 hrs. you can email Juan Carlos Chavez at: juan.chavez@lineacalifornia.com for reservations or information. He will respond in english. DG

dgross, Did they say anything about women and children? I'm hoping to take my three kids over this summer, but if they're still excluding women and
children, that's a real pain. I know a family that went across in December and the mom and two kids were forced to stow away in the hold with the
car. What a pain. - Stephanie

Stephanie,
Contact Juan Carlos by email (see earlier post). If you are the driver of the car, how could you be excluded? Lineas California is a new company
servicing this route with operations in many countries around the world. Could be the previous company enforced the exclusion policy. Thing is, Lineas
California is likely focused on commercial vehicles and cargo. I found them by searching ocean-going freight lines on the net! Good Luck!

Boy are you a good researcher! I will get in touch with your contact. But understand, this is still Mexico and excluding women is still very
possible and even likely. I'll let you all know what I find out in case anyone else is interested.-Stephanie

Stephanie I know it out of your way but I have heard gossip the Mulege ferry is going to start up again soon.
Stephanie Jackter - 3-11-2003 at 10:52 PM
Let me know if the Mulege ferry does get up and running. Would that ferry take cars? I wouldn't mind going down to La Paz from Mulege at all, as I
have often driven down from Santa Rosalia and LOVE that drive. The biggest problem down to Puerto Escondido is keeping my eyes on the road with all
the scenic beauty around me. Will it go to Topolobampo, or Guaymas or where?
I've never driven down the whole penninsula and maybe it's not as much of a pain as I percieve it to be, but I've always felt so lucky to be able to
cruise down the coast on good roads and hop the ferry over. I'll be glad when this situation gets straightened out.- Stephanie
