Two Blondes in Rosarito

Steve&Debby - 2-16-2009 at 10:13 AM

My wife has a daughter that turns 30 this year and she wants to do something special for her.She asked me what I thought about her and her daughter takeing her car( A BRIGHT RED CORVETTE) and driveing to Rosarito.I said I did not think two good looking blonde girls in a Red Corvette would be very safe. She wants to stay at the Calfina hotel.
I told her I would feel better if she took her on a cruise or flew to Cabo.
What do you think?

Hook - 2-16-2009 at 10:14 AM

I think they aren't doing much to break the blonde stereotype.

bajaguy - 2-16-2009 at 10:23 AM

Fly to San Diego, rent a convertible from Avis and drive to Rosarito......better yet, Ensenada....stay at Los Rocas:

http://community.iexplore.com/planning/journalEntryAccommoda...

Then pop over to Sano's for a great dinner.

Can also do a quick day trip and visit some wineries north of Ensenada

edit for spelling....sheesh

Displaying ostentatious wealth in a third world country is just asking for trouble ....

I am sure they will get a lot of "attention".....:wow:

Hook - 2-16-2009 at 10:50 AM

Bajaguy has some great ideas there.

Diver - 2-16-2009 at 10:59 AM

I like the options; a cruise or Cabo, Loreto or Hawaii for that matter.
Ya gotta be kidding about taking the vette ??

BajaGringo - 2-16-2009 at 11:00 AM

Probably not one of their better ideas...

WTF?

Why would you care what we think? If it were my stepdaughter I certainly wouldn't be asking your advice. I'd be telling her and her mother that the idea is really, really, stoopid.

bad idea

desertcpl - 2-16-2009 at 11:45 AM

I agree,, sounds like a very bad idea,, just looking for trouble

This will set your mind at ease.

Rosarito is not "special." Rosarito is a dump, and the beach is polluted/unsafe to swim. Your plan will result in very depressing 30th birthday. Suggest you look at alternate destinations if looking for "special" trip that does not require anti-depressants.

Woooosh - 2-16-2009 at 12:50 PM

besides it's not even warm here. Why not enjoy the 'vette on a drive to Palm Springs?

Steve&Debby - 2-16-2009 at 12:53 PM

Dave,
Just for the record I already told her it was a bad Idea.

Packoderm - 2-16-2009 at 01:08 PM

What they need to do is fly to Los Cabos with an escort. You can U2U me for my email.

Bajahowodd - 2-16-2009 at 01:53 PM

I don't see any date mentioned as for the timing of the trip. I have to agree with most that Rosarito would not fit the definition of special. Aside from the heart of spring break, there are abundant bargains. Cruise lines are begging for customers- offering on-board credit and free upgrades. As for Cabo, there are a whole bunch of hotels offering 1 or 2 free nights depending on the length of stay. Cabo would be just a tad nicer and a bit safer than Rosarito. Personally, I love Ensenada. But it's kind of chilly there right now. For me, it's a couple hour drive. I note that you guys would be coming from N. CA. Fly to Cabo, or drive to Long Beach and hop a cruise.

Thanks for chiming in Forest Gump.By the way, some friends from Alberta told us that BC stands for Barely Canadian. Is that true?:lol::lol:

SteveD - 2-16-2009 at 02:53 PM

The Califia Hotel has just been critiqued in the Baja Questions & Answers board.

Woooosh - 2-16-2009 at 02:54 PM

We can't figure out why so many Mexicans are moving to Canada actually.

There are great airfares right now- fly them down to somewhere warm.

Send them down and let's see what happens. If the roaches at Calafia don't get them, who knows?:lol::lol: Should be an interesting road trip report.

mulegemichael - 2-16-2009 at 05:08 PM

for a thirty year old, looking for warm weather, beautiful scenery and a great time, it's cabo...don't even hesitate!

You know, you're right.

If Cabo is ANYTHING still, it is partying and fishing.

Dancing on the tables at Squid Roe................coming home at 4am, smelling like squid roe.

In the vernacular of the surfer....................CABO, DUDE!!!!!!

Bajafun777 - 2-16-2009 at 06:07 PM

Do not know what her birthday is but if they want party time and no need of rental fly to Mazatlan. Stay at Pueblo Bonita on Avenida Camaron Sabalo 2121, that has great service, great location for catching buses to town, safe as more Candians and Americans there right now than you can shake a stick at. Lots of fun things to do if wanting the party night life but still pretty safe due to the large amount of English speaking people there that they could get help from if needed. Just a fun town or could go down to La Paz, Loreto or if only a day or two just call the Rosarito Hotel and they will come to the Border and pick them up for about $22 dollars ($11 dollars per person), buy them a Spa treatment day ($138 dollars for all day thing of massage, facial, pedicure, and use of Spa jacuzzi, steam room, etc.), great food at the Resturant but the night life is hit or miss, so it's settled fly them to Mazatlan much safer at this time for two women by themselves. Later----bajafun777

fishbuck - 2-16-2009 at 07:36 PM

I'm seconding the Cabo suggestion. Rosarito is cool this time of year.
I never go there anyway. I go to the Pyrimid Resort near La Fonda or to Ensenada. And only in summer.

elgatoloco - 2-16-2009 at 08:08 PM

Ground clearance on Vette could create issues. :dudette:

Sallysouth - 2-16-2009 at 09:24 PM

Hey Woooosh, you think it is warm in Palm Springs right now???Looks like a cold, chilly desert for some time to come.:o:oI would choose a trip to Cabo at her age.Warm sun, lots of fun things to do.(I know, I have three daughters, all been there!), and one lives there.Rosarito Beach?Uh uh, won't go there, do a search here on this forum!Red Vet? Ya gotta be kidding?

You don't need a rental car in Cabo unless you stay in a hotel along the corridor, or really wish to travel around. Personally, one of the best combinations or reasonable price and location walkable to all the town and marina highlights is the Hotel Finesterra. Same goes for the original Pueblo Bonito in Medano Beach. Both are first class.

Yep. Yesterday afternoon in TJ the overflowing sewer water from the rain was well over a foot deep along a good chunk of the northbound border road between the bottom of the big hill and the cloverleaf. You would have drowned in a vette. I just need to deodorize the underside of my truck.

bajadogs - 2-17-2009 at 02:29 PM

The last time two blondes went to Baja to celebrate a birthday they read the sign "Mexico Left" as they approached the border.
So they went home.

so sorry about that

Think globally -- Paris, Thailand, Turkey.

Bajahowodd - 2-17-2009 at 05:14 PM

Two women alone? Rome would be the place.
