Amber Dubois - missing teen from Escondido

BajaNomad - 2-19-2009 at 02:53 PM

This seems incredible to me considering the discussions we're having on missing people, and the # of current threads going on such...

But - no joke - the step-father to missing teen Amber Dubois (from Escondido) is a close personal family friend. She's been missing for 6 days - since last Friday morning.

The Escondido Police have apparently done all they can do without further leads, and the family has asked me if I would assist in getting some visibility with this to Nomads in Baja California.

The family has setup a website at:
http://www.amberleeannedubois.com

Here's a recent article:
http://www.nctimes.com/articles/2009/02/18/news/inland/escon...

Photos of Amber:

Any help in getting further visibility with this would be appreciated.

guestion,,,, why do the Escondido police think she might be in Baja,, and with whom,,

again i hope this plays out okay for her

David K - 2-19-2009 at 05:56 PM

As a father of a teenage daughter, I can imagine it is the parents who would like as many eyes looking for her as possible, and it was them not the local law who probably asked Doug to help...

Escondido is in San Diego County ie. borders Baja... and Baja is a popular place to go... for fun, or to get away from the law, or to take girls... So it makes perfect sense to have the #1 Baja Internet forum members get alerted. The local news has been broadcasting for Amber daily.

I sure pray she shows up, unharmed... Hopefully, she just got a streak of independence and went somewhere with friends... rebelling, perhaps?

I asked him if there was any specific hint that there was a Baja-connection, and from what he told me (and what I've read) the Police are out of leads, and the family has now hired a Private Investigator who has advised them to get more visibility outside the county, including Mexico - which is when he thought of contacting me to assist in that regard.

Thanks for your understanding - and for any assistance with this.

So sorry to hear this. I too had a close family member that went missing in Rosarito Beach several years ago. The local police were contacted immediately, and she was returned unharmed within 24 hours. Huge hangover, but unharmed....

Woooosh - 2-20-2009 at 10:21 AM

I saw a good sized story in todays Union Tribune about Amber- so the word is getting out. The story was very positive about her being a good responsible kid.

We'll keep an eye out around here for her too.

Bajahowodd - 2-20-2009 at 11:47 AM

Noting that she is a good responsible kid makes the situation more disturbing to me. Really hope she is OK.

Huge national coverage of the search for Amber because of the Escondido based Tour de California bike race. The word and her photos are out there. Every mention of her tells listeners how good a person she is.

Paulina - 2-24-2009 at 12:19 PM

Doug,

My heart goes out to this family. My daughter is only two months younger than Amber. I can only imagine how devistated they are with each passing day. Please pass on the word that we are all thinking of them and hoping for her safe return.

Bumping ..

Anyone who has ever experienced a loved one going missing/abducted knows the helplessness - and myriad of other feelings - the Dubois family is going thru ..

Anything that can be done to find Amber is necessary .. post the flyer on/in locations that can potentially lead to finding Amber ..

Our thoughts, prayers and support are given in abundance.

Bajahowodd - 2-25-2009 at 11:57 AM

I am as concerned as anyone for the safety of Amber. I do wish to point out an inconsistency in the stories I've read. It's about the investigator Garcia. Unless he's being wrongly quoted, to me it does not makes sense that in the same breath Garcia can say that he believes Amber was abducted, and then state that he thinks her friends know more than they are letting on. These would seem to be more of an either-or situation.

Diver - 2-25-2009 at 06:41 PM

They picked up the story on CNN Nancy Grace last night and are continuing coverage tonight.
Hoping they find her .....

This is so heart-breaking. I hope she's found alive, soon.

My daughter, Angelie, will be 14 May 25th and I couldn't stand life without her.

Very creepy that with all the media attention, she has still not been found.....

I'm Voting for runaway. Because that would be the the scenario that would end best. Alive and healthy. Face it. She was a child of a broken marriage, and by all that was reported was not social. Typical. Hang in there Amber.

Bumping, any news?

David K - 3-10-2009 at 08:56 AM

Mother was interviewed by Rick Roberts (760 KFMB SD) yesterday morning...

Nothing new about Amber, just more details on the home life... Her bio dad is in Orange County and her mom has a 5 year old with the boyfriend who has only lived with the mom and Amber for 2 years... ?? Mom said everything was fine... Amber was anxious to be in school the day she vanished because she had a deposit check for her Ag class (?) lamb purchase and to exchange Valentine's cards.

24baja - 3-10-2009 at 10:09 PM

Thanks David, you are a well informed person. Hope she is okay.

Kell-Baja - 3-14-2009 at 03:35 PM

So sad, as time goes by the hope gets dimmer. I really feel for this family. Seems like she's a good girl with a bright future.

Amber and teenagers in general

Curt63 - 4-7-2009 at 11:30 AM

I teach at Amber's high school so I've seen and heard a lot of the Amber story. I too am hoping and praying for her safe return.

1. According to a good friend of mine on the Esc. PD, an abduction at 7:10 am on North Broadway (very busy with cars and lots of kids walking to a school of 2950) does not fit the pattern of the typical abduction. Also, the abduction of a white kid brings far more attention than a non-white (sorry to say).

2. The mom initially said her daughter was not online, but a month later the North County Times reported that her Yahoo screenname was "Wolfintheend".

3. Lot's of students interviewed by the police and that I've spoken with have suggested she is not as squeaky clean as her mother suggests (wears black, Goth, friends).

I would speculate that she ran away with a guy she met online.

My experience with teenagers ( and many adults) is that they have an incredible ability to deceive people.

I am always surprised at the type and amount of sexual activity today's teens practice (I'm not saying anything about Amber). The girls are shockingly aggressive and curious and the guys are ... just guys. The home lives of a lot of kids do not role model healthy, committed, respectful relationships.

I am a father of 3 teenage girls and I beg all of you to aggressively monitor your kids' online and texting activities. Our kids are our responsibilty and they really need involved parents that care.

Phil S - 4-7-2009 at 03:39 PM

I remember when my daughter was 13 & 14 & 15 & 16 etc. I didn't think I was going to survive it. But I did. and she actually grew up, and became a responsible, loving, devoted daughter, who now is a mother of two great kids. And are loved, and nurished, and being taught respect. Given great values, and a Christian upbringing. (a proud grandfather.)
Praying for Ambers 'surfacing' and being o.k.
Anxiously awaiting the, "good news"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, someone in Puerto Nuevo handed out reward posters. Don't know who as I wasn't there at the time but I understand they were widely circulated.

Hopefully, a $60,000 reward should produce results.

There are two solutions to this problem:

One solution is to change the system. You (all of you) vote for legislators who "make" the law; prosecutors or District Attorneys who enforce the law and prosecute the violators and judges who sit on the bench.......your vote can help change the system. It is broken and needs to be fixed, and damn the cost.

I am not only talking at the local or state level, I also mean the federal level........remember who appoints the Court of Appeals (9th District in California) and Supreme Court Justices.

These animals need to be put to death or locked up for life.......there is no rehabilitation for a pedophile or sexual predator.

The second solution is to take care of the problem yourself.....in the old days of the west, there were people that you could hire.........

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_Gun_%E2%80%93_Will_Travel

........but these days, we have very few Paladins.....or others who have the stomach for what needs to be done.

We are a nation of sheep, wolves and sheepdogs. The majority are sheep, there are plenty of wolves, and very few sheepdogs..........

http://www.gleamingedge.com/mirrors/onsheepwolvesandsheepdog...

....we want and need the sheepdogs, but unfortunately, when the sheepdog does it's work, there are always those sheep who feel the need to criticize.........

If you have not looked at the site, you need to......and bookmark it. Check it every week...... you never know who your neighbor is.........

http://www.nsopw.gov/(X(1)S(oybiff45aw5wcvfufchvf155))/Core/Conditions.aspx

What will you do??????

Totally agree, there is no know cure to the Medical Profession, yet there are those who upon observation and testing make determinations which cause these individuals to be released.

Perhaps if these individuals the "Doctors" who sign the release papers incur criminal liability for their actions.. there would be a very quick change in their evaluations and recommendations to the parole boards...

You can't have it both ways.. I'm a doctor and in my opinion this individual is ready to reenter society, but don't hold be accountable if the individual reverts back to their old behavior, and I can't be held for may actions which were in writing .. Please.. Then let them live with you or in your neighborhood.. Doctor

Now what's up with that... will voting take care of that... NO.. but personal responsibility for one's actions would!!!!

Would anyone know the individual who made the recommendation for release to the Parole Board?

It would be very interesting to have a good look at this individual... or would that be considered Politically incorrect.. :fire::fire:

Let's see what can be generated about this issue.. and/or individual who is really responsible for this young woman's death... the individual who went on "record" that this person was "fit" for society...

Wiley, I think it is deeper than that. They probably have a set of guidelines developed by legislators and lobbyists.

The whole sexual offender system needs to be changed to protect the victims/communities.

ELINVESTIG8R - 3-8-2010 at 11:25 AM

Child molesters are never cured. EVER! With that in mind when they finish their prison sentences all child molesters must be placed into a state mental facility for the rest of their lives under a civil commitment. If these people are let out into society they will re-offend as many times as they can until caught again. That's how I see it!

The Sculpin - 3-8-2010 at 11:35 AM

Horrific and random crimes have a way of bringing out the torches and pitchforks. The "bullet in the back of the head" solution is made as a panacea to all our ills. The detail wherein the devil lurks is when do you pull the trigger - and who's head do you shoot? The medical community provides technical advice based on the information it is given. They don't make the decisions - why would you want to make them accountable for something they have no part in. Keep in mind that at Gardeners sentencing, there were opposing medical reports, as well as community support for him. As for the person making the recommendation - that's all they did. The Parole board signed off on it - why not make them responsible? After all is said and done, you've basically taken out the parole board, the doctors, the defense attorney, the prosecutor, the judge, the DA - that's alot of bullets! And what do we do with Rothlisberger - shoot him too? This is the 2nd time he's been looked at for a sexual crime - clearly he can't be cured!! Very unworkable and very Stalin-esque. Currently, we don't have a solution because we are in the unfortunate position of having to wait for a crime to be committed before we can punish the crime. What we do have is DNA. We have genome mapping. If we can screen the genome for propensity to ahlziemers, we possibly may be able to screen for violent behaviours. It sounds like eugenics, and there are civil and privacy minefields to navigate, but it sure as heck beats indiscriminate use of bullets! So please, stop listening to Rick Roberts, think for yourselves, and think about real solutions that don't involve pitchforks and torches. Oh yea, and visit baja often - the locals desperately need the cash!!

Here's the rub:

First, I would have no problem in either death or life-in-prison. But a sentence then life commitment is inherently unfair to the legal process. You could effectively make the same case for any criminal regardless of offence. Let's do it right the first time and put these monsters away for good...Or kill 'em.

ELINVESTIG8R - 3-8-2010 at 11:55 AM

In this guys case he will be eventually killed. That said, other innocent victims would not have been victimized by this dirt-bag had he been put away for life in a mental institution under a civil commitment for being a Sexually Violent Predator! My heart goes out to those families this scum-bag victimized!

bajabass - 3-8-2010 at 12:27 PM

Execute violent sexual predators upon undeniable proof of guilt! I will volunteer my services as needed. Qualifications- U.S.M.C. Expert rifle and handgun ratings. A wife, 6 sisters, 8 nieces, Mom, 4 aunts, 4 sisters-in-law. To think that these people could access the people I care for most is reason enough to put them to death!
