Maybe it has always been this way but for the last few years I keep hearing my N.American friends using the term 'fido' for fideicomiso. It bugs me.
Not sure if fido is 'legitimate slang' or a English-speaker lazy shortening of fideicomiso. I have never heard a Spanish speaker call it a fido. I
do read 'fido' in Nomads a lot.
I keep wanting to comment about it but perhaps I am just late to the party. Like aire acondicionado and estacionamiento, I had to practice over and
over (and over) saying fidei comiso aloud to be able to say it correctly rather than fidO comiso.. So I tend to see them as just taking a shortcut.
If Mexicans take that shortcut, too, OK; but if its just english speakers taking an easy way out, then I want to know that it is not a term I want to
use.

I don't think I'd be upset if a Mexican used it. Fideicamiso isn't a term most Mexicans would have an interest in since it doesn't apply to them. Some

I think it's a typing/spelling short cut. In any correspondence I've had relating to property business in MX (see....there's another shortcut...),
whether communicatin with Mexicans or North Americans, I always spell it out. I also practiced saying "fidei...." not "fidO..."
I can understand (and may even have done it myself) using the slang/abreviation on a mostly English forum. Typing skills are not a strength for many
people, and even proper spelling can be a challenge for English words let alone foreign words. My hubby is usually not allowed to send business
emails unless I go through them and correct all the spelling, grammer and punctuation mistakes. I'm not dissing on him, he's just not good at that

Is it true that just foreigners use fideicomisos to hold real estate? I've heard that Mexican speculators will set them up to make it easier to sell
to foreigners because it is quicker to transfer than originate. Plus I suppose there are other reasons to place property in a trust.
