fire at buenaventura

mulegemichael - 3-20-2009 at 05:54 PM

we were headed down to the airport at loreto yesterday,(waaaaaaaa, we have to go back!), and when we came past buenaventura on the bay, the restaurant portion of the hotel at buenaventura was on fire...the whole roof was flaming and there were many, many people just standing around the perimeter...i saw someone WALK over for a hose but it seemed no one really cared...the entire roof was on fire!...whatever...any other info?

Jeez, Mike...here we go again. I just got back from one fire north of here and now we have one south of me about 11 miles! Hope Olivia is okay.

Is this the season of fires?

mulegemichael - 3-20-2009 at 08:00 PM

it was far removed from olivia and marcos place...way over in the hotel..but no one seemed to care, really....a guy was up there throwing water on it, like out of a coffee cup,,,was really strange

that place SHOULD burn down (the hotel, not the surrounding houses!) That hotel is a pit.l

Somewhat surprising to see the fires so close, and remembering Santiago recently. Brings to mind that in the states, although not being reported on much (yet), there's an epidemic of arson fires, buildings and vehicles, related to the economy. All done for insurance purposes. Stay tuned.

I have one of the homes there...the only one on the front row with a palapa roof...hope it wasn't mine......neither of my two neighbors have check in yet....

Terry28, it's a short run of only 11 miles from my Coyote Bay home. I'll go down and take a pic for you. Doesn't sound like any other structures were in danger, but will confirm here soon.

Pompano,

Thank you very much...If it was the palapa type structure right next to the hotel (north side), that was used for storage and is directly behind the big generators. The reason behind no water is they used gravity feed pilas from the roof for the hotel...no pressure to speak of.....

Oh, c'mon, some sleazy lawyer from TJ, who's trying to steal La Perla beach from the ejido, couldn't possibly be suspected of arsoning his own property, could he???

Buenaventura Hotel and complex today

There appears to be very little damage at all. Just a small portion of the palapa roof and rafters. Looks to be too close to the genset and that may been the cause of the little flare-up.

Nothing seemed unusual with all other structures, houses, and Olivia's restaurant. Here's this morning's photos:

The burned roof area seems to be just above a power plant.
