We plan to spend a night in El Rosario enroute to East Cape. I tried to reserve a couple of rooms at the Baja Cactus Motel via email, but have gotten
no response back. Is there any other recommended place to stay in El Rosario as a back-up?
Thank you.Alan - 3-21-2009 at 04:26 PM
There's a new one that just opened last year across the street from Baja's Best. It was clean and very reasonable but I don't remember the name.
Then of course there is Baja's Best but I have never stayed there so I can't comment on itBajahowodd - 3-21-2009 at 04:29 PM
David K has had positive remarks about the place. Tourista is the name. No website that I know of. And, of course, if you can extend another 75 miles,
there's the Desert inn at Catavina.Mulegena - 3-21-2009 at 04:58 PM
Yes, La Tourista at the south end of El Rosario is a great option and very economical.
Baja's Best is across the street with good food and sumptuous rooms.
Hotel Sinahi is kinda shabby but clean and quiet. Ditto Mama Espinosa's.
Baja Cactus may have rooms. They hold reservations only until 8 pm anyway. Just stop in and ask.
Now if they'd just get rid of those darn speedbumps in town-- there's gotta be a gazillion of 'em!
Look for reviews of all El Rosario lodgings in "Accommodation Reviews" or do a Search for a specific lodge.

Lots of reviews in the past on this board.
No consensus on some of the places. Do a searchshari - 3-21-2009 at 06:44 PM
We just call to make reservations at baja cactus...I believe the number is from the states 011-52-616-165-8700...we never had any luck with email
either but calling works great. If you have never stayed there...please try it..you wont regret it. We rarely stay in motels and THAT is one classy
joint for cheap!Diver - 3-21-2009 at 07:38 PM
Also, Mama's has a nice hotel right next door to BajaCactus.kitjv - 3-21-2009 at 07:49 PM

Also,
Don't know the why of more than 1 room but Cactus does have 2 rooms with lofts.
2 queen beds and 2 twins upstairs.
Cost is onl $10 more than the other newer rooms.
The older rooms are pretty basic - old beds and furniture but clean.kitjv - 3-21-2009 at 10:04 PM

Oh, I thought you were from California ?? Bajahowodd - 3-21-2009 at 11:51 PM
Don't know where you are coming from. I mentioned the possibility of an extra 75 miles to Catavina, and on the other end, there are some very good
places in the San Quintin area, about the same number of miles earlier. Jardines is one. Anyway, I know I will incur a great deal of grief here, but
El Rosario, to me, is a depressing place. I apologize that I can't join in with all those folks on the board, but it's just a gut feeling. Baja
Cactus, while the physical aspect is very attractive, to me is actually dark, and noisy. Dining opportunities in El Rosario are mediocre. Maybe I'm
crazy, but I just don't get it.kitjv - 3-22-2009 at 08:14 AM
We will be just passing through & spending one night. No big deal. I just wanted to see what our lodging options were. Thanks.Bob H - 3-22-2009 at 08:16 AM
I don't know about the rooms at Motel Saini... about a 1/2 mile past the bend in the road, but I do know that the restaurant there is fantastic! We
park our cabover in the RV park behind the motel there every time we stay overnight in El Roasrio. It seems like a nice clean place though.

Ditto on the restaurant. Having a brain fart on the name , but it's called something "beach" But skip the motel.rpleger - 3-22-2009 at 03:46 PM
Baja's Best is small but VERY GOOD.
Motel Saini is clean, showers are a small ok, but a good safe place in a pinch.
Restaurant is greatkitjv - 3-22-2009 at 03:54 PM

Baja's best has not always gotten the Best reviewsbajabound2005 - 3-22-2009 at 07:10 PM
We LOVE Baja Cactus! Why? It's very inexpensive ($350 PESOS!!!) for a super nice room with king size bed and beautiful furnishings and touches. Ask
for a room in the "back" don't take 101 or 102 and the "noise" is much lighter. The noise is really from trucks coming down that hill and using their
jake brakes. We love the BC and will stay there every time when passing through.
Baja's Best is great for breakfast! And now he has wifi and is working on a website. Understand they are dog-friendly and have decent rooms and
enclosed property (so the pups are safe) if you want to go leash-free.
Last month we traveled south with friends and stayed at the Cactus. Our friends were leery when they made their reservations as they've stayed in
more expensive places (think Guerrero Negro) and had crap for rooms. When we arrived at the Cactus they couldnt' believe what we got for the $$$.
Buddy Dale took 2 showers because the showers are BEAUTIFUL! We had to pry them all out with crowbars they loved it so much!Diver - 3-22-2009 at 07:15 PM
Here is a shot of the bath area showing the glass-wall, walk-in shower beyond.
Very nice indeed as were the wonderful beds and pillows at Bajacactus.

AS someone posted... CALL BAJA CACTUS direct for reservations... I get NO RESPONSE on any emails I have sent to Antonio for the past year. The phone
number is on the web page http://bajacactus.com
BOCANA BEACH RESTAURANT is in front of the SINAHI MOTEL... Run by 'Primo' and order a pitcher of Melon Juice with your breakfast! Good food usually.
BAJA'S BEST RESTAURANT is also GOOD... all remodeled interior Bed & Breakfast there is $60.
TACOS MISION... great burritos and baked potatoes!
TURISTA MOTEL is super comfortable, only 30 pesos.. good showers.
I have seen filth/ mold in the Mama Espinoza motel 'Las Cabaņas', when a Nomad stayed there a couple years ago and showed me his room, after I showed
him a Baja Cactus room! The Sinahi is really 'basic', emergency over night place if Cactus and Turista and Baja's Best are full, IMO
