Bahia hotel

greta-inbaja - 3-23-2009 at 06:22 PM

Does anyone know if I could get away with leaving my dog in the truck if I get a room for the night at bahia hotel in ensenada. Or would it be a bad idea? It would be nice to get a head start inthe morning.
Thanks

Call the hotel and ask, I doubt that the hotel would care. Is the dog in a camper or the cab? Maybe let any security they have know.

bajaguy - 3-23-2009 at 06:38 PM

What day/evening would this be for???

greta-inbaja - 3-23-2009 at 06:40 PM

Good idea. She's 100 lbs of german shepherd and she can stay in the back w/our stuff. It has a shell. I haven't heard of hotel/motels in ensenada that she can stay in the room.

greta-inbaja - 3-23-2009 at 06:49 PM

It would be for Wednesday april 15. Online its 50.00

bajabound2005 - 3-23-2009 at 06:54 PM

Take the dog into the room with you. I doubt anyone will care. Don't leave her there alone, of course! But you'll both be happier together.

toneart - 3-23-2009 at 07:16 PM

Some people smuggle small dogs into their rooms in motels, but not 100 lb. dogs. Mine weighs 100 lbs. and I only bring him into motels that allow dogs. It is discourteous to try and sneak them in. I can understand and respect the reasons why some hotel/motels don't allow dogs.

Maybe your dog is accustomed to staying the night in the truck. (Mine isn't). If your dog is used to it, I don't think any hotel/motel would mind. Good advice to let the security know.

There is a motel called Hotel California (yet another) which is way up the highway from Ensenada, not far from the turnoff to Tecate and the Valle de Guadalupe Wine country. They allow dogs. A nice older man owns it and he usually is at the front desk. He speaks English, too. If you are coming south, look for it on the right side of the road, just south of the Tecate turnoff.

Bien Viaje!

Thanks Toneart, I will check that one out. My dog travel well, but she prefers to be with us. She is a german shepherd, Big wooofer potential so we don't leave her.

Go to a leather shop in Ensenada and have a harness, just like the service dog harnesses, made for your dog. Then you can take your pooch everywhere. You just have to hold the harness with a confused look on your face.

Just don't know why anyone would want to leave their dog in the truck over night. Look for a pet friendly hotel, and take your beast inside with you. Leaving a dog alone in a truck overnight borders on animal cruelty.

For many reasons, not the least which is, if they want your car, they'll kill your dog, probably brutaly.

A suggestion for you. I have stayed at Hotel Quintas Papagayos Resort many times over the last 35 years and cannot find another that compares for our needs of dog-friendly and ample trailer parking. The resort has individual bungalows, suites, etc. Parking is secure and huge. Some old-time Baja amigos of our with 2 Shepards stayed there this last November upon our advice and they were very happy to have found this place. Has a complete service resort and is/was cheaper than most of the newer hotels.

Every person I have told about this place never fails to tell me how much they like it and will stay again.

It is easy to find. On the main highway, oceanfront, north part of the city. I love this place.

Pompano knows what he speaks.... Hotel Quintas Papagayos Resort is fantastic. And, they know how to cook chili there in September - an annual cookoff event.

Isn't Hussongs part of the ownership there?

Yes, a Walt Hussong property...

bajabound2005 - 3-24-2009 at 07:30 AM

but they haven't held the chili cook-off for the past 2 years...maybe this year!

Quintas Papagayo is right by Sano's restaurant which has received highest reviews here and other places. A real class act.

hey hey hey....we are animal lovers BUT our dogs sleep in the back of our truck with a shell on it all the time when we go to hotels...they dont mind a bit and are used to it....cruelty to animals....pleaaaaase:mad: I guess our dogs are normal dogs and not woosey dogs.

greta-inbaja - 3-24-2009 at 11:47 AM

Thanks for the input Shari, I haven't been a nomad long enough to get fired up on the board. My dog comes everywhere w/us, the store, the post office, everywhere. She would rather come for a ride and "guard the truck" as she is told than stay at home. Its been that way her whole adult life, she knows no other. I do want to thank everyone for the suggestions. Anyone that travels with a dog knows how appreciated a hotel/motel that takes pets can be.

DENNIS - 3-24-2009 at 01:54 PM

I agree with you. I take my dog everywhere but, I wouldn't leave her alone in a hotel parking lot all night anywhere.

Don't stay at the Bahia, it's a expencive DUMP! Try the Colon behind the St. Nicholas 1/4 the price and you can bring you pup in the room.

rpleger - 3-24-2009 at 02:26 PM

The Motel Colon is the best, I didn't know about the dog policy but I don't doubt it...Great low cost place to stay...

bajabound2005 - 3-24-2009 at 05:17 PM

Confirming email from Bahia just rec'd: they don't allow pets.

Pacifico - 3-25-2009 at 02:13 PM

Don't stay at The Bahia - Stay at Papagayos Resort. The LAST time my wife and I stayed at the Bahia there was blood stained sheets! They have good parking and a good location, but not much more than that!!!

I think you're allowed to clean fish in your room...preferably in the bed. It's an old Ensenada tradition.

Ken Bondy - 3-25-2009 at 04:07 PM

Pompano is right on as usual. Quintas Papagayo is fabulous. Spent my rookie honeymoon there.

Bajahowodd - 3-25-2009 at 11:45 PM

I have no ax to grind here, but Tripadvisor rates Quinta Papagayos in the dumper. Google it and check it out. I know that Tripadvisor is easily manipulated, and I always review their ratings with a grain of salt, but in this case, the Quintas is rated as 32 0f 34 in the Ensenada area. Some of the reviews are incredible.
