A Day in the War on Drugs

One of our daily obligations is taking our Dogs for their run. During the cold weather, we don't like to take them down on the beach because they go swimming in the cold water and tend to be wet for the rest of the day.

SO, we drive back into a couple of favorite spots in the desert where they can roam. Unfortunately, those two favorite spots are also favored by the Mexican Army for their Druggie Campouts. We've learned to look ahead to make sure they aren't there beforehand.

Ayer, we drove over to the most favored one, found it vacant and let the dogs out. After awhile, they started to wander so esposa gets out to take them for a walk. I'm sitting ALONE in the middle of nowhere reading a magazine and a Trooper-filled Hummer shows up. All but the driver wearing Ski-masks along with their Flak-Jackets. They surround me, rifles at the ready and approach. I, of course, am trying to explain about the dogs and wife (nowhere to be seen) as they keep their rifles pointed and search the Samurai.

Fortunately, after a couple of minutes the wife and dogs show up. Of course, the dogs go into Guard mode and start barking at everybody.

Talk about BAD timing.

All worked out, though. No shots fired. We know to stay away from there for a few days until they move on to another hiding spot.

Great story!!! I'm sure you didn't share it to be funny, and tried hard not to let the chuckle escape my lips, but I didn't succeed. Thanks! :lol:

You sure owe your wife, big time! Had you been a brat at breakfast, (not prossible, I'm sure) she could have asked, who you were and what the H you were doing in her car. :biggrin:

It's a little scarey when your dog gets official. Had a boxer years ago that didn't like people near the car. She jumped to defend at a check point and her collar broke. In an instant five rifles were pointing at her.
She had never seen a rifle but sensed it was bad news. She stopped and turned to me with an expression that said 'Why did you let me go?'
I got her collar on and the soldiers were laughing.

Why stay so close to these trouble spots. It's not even warm enough to walk the beach?

I could drive each day 300 miles roundtrip to let the dogs run on a SoCal beach where I'd get a ticket for them not being on a leash.

I'd have to be a Liberal to be that dumb.

It's not them walking ON the Beach that's the problem in Winter weather, it's the SWIMMING IN the water that worries me.

BUT, things are improving. We've had TWO days the wind didn't blow this week. Thought today would be a third, but the wind's coming up. Need to get them down to the water before it gets too strong.

I hope the soldiers are miserable back there in the trees. It won't keep them from coming back, though.
