Dish Network for San Felipe area

Does anyone here that has a place in and around San Felipe use Dish Network? Pros/Cons please?

We are interested in having Dish Network service in San Diego and then couple that to a Sat. Dish at our house below San Felipe in Playa Hermosa.

Currently we are paying the Cable company in San Diego and have DirecTV at our Beach House.

We are also in the south Campos and use Direct. We have it at home in the states as well as a dish for it on our 5th wheel. I think it's $5 per month per extra box, no problems at all in all 3 locations, including local stations.

Yes, we currently have DirecTV in San Felipe. We need information on DISH NETWORK in San Felipe.

DISH Works fine except for Big City Local Channels. Many, many users.

The two most common Big City Channel complements (San Diego and Los Angeles) are on Spot-Beam Transponders so their reception path is erratic in the area. It is possible, though, to subscribe separately to National East and West Coast feeds of the four major networks for around 10 bucks monthly. At present their feeds are from NY and SF.

That is what I'm looking for. To verify service. News package is not a big deal to us as we are only part timers and back home in a few days. The music channed Serius is a big deal to us though. Is that coming in?

Now, could a guy have a dish in both San Diego and on a remote home or RV under the same account. Could the remote home or RV be treated as an additonal TV? Anyone doing this? Travel back and forth with a receiver or card?

DISH tends to be somewhat more picky about receiver locations and, now and then (based on unknown criteria), will notify users of multiple receivers that they (Echostar GQ) will conduct a telephone audit to make sure all of the receivers are at the same subscribed location. Usually, they are looking at those who have more than Three receivers.

However, one caveat is that they WILL issue an RV waiver for ONE receiver. At an addtional cost, of course. Five bucks, I think.

SO, a 100-percent "Legal" approach is possible as described.

However, carrying one of your receivers around in an RV without notification is not a problem as long as you have it available at the "Home" location should an audit be required.

The Sirius radio provided on Dish is via "Conus" (Continental U.S.) feeds and is, therefore, available the same as other national feeds.

The whole spotbeam BS for City feeds originally came about as a result of lawsuits from the Cable interests having to do with advertising being provided out-of-market area.

Although not designed to address the questions here, there is an excellent site that updates info on the activities, legal and otherwise, of the Sat TV industry.

That's the info I need. We have an installer coming this Saturday to our home in San Diego. Hopefully this guy "plays ball" and sets up our "RV" (which actually we do have one in the driveway).

I will just need the coordinates for DISH in our area below San Felipe. When I set up my DirecTV dish some years back I copied what my neighbor had by using the marks on his pivoting mount, and then used a compass on his SAT to get close for left to right on mine.

Would you happen to have those coordinates or know someone with a DISH satellite?

We're coming south on the 9th and hopefully will have a dish and a receiver in hand.

We had a dish 1000 antena installed on our motorhome in december.This system is an automatic system,once you get to where you are going just push one button and it locates the satillite and locks on.We were told by Dish that this system would work in Baja.WRONG!!!!! Once we got past Ensanada there was no signal,well we did get one jewelry channel in Guero Negro.We have not been to San Felipe yet with it,I think it may work there.It sure is nice when it works.

Just heard from a neighbor and of mine in Baja, who is also a Nomad, he said as MrBill said and that is the DishTV works in our area.

Already talked to my installer for this Saturday at my San Diego home and he will be providing an additional receiver for $99 and an additional dish for $49 so I may put it on my "RV".

Looking at my figures for the 110 and 119 slot SOUTH of San Felipe (30.635N-114.685W), I show:

110 - Azimuth 170.9 True (approx 158 Magnetic) 53 deg elevation

119 - Azimuth 188.4 True (approx 170 Magnetic) 54 deg elevation

Using a Dish 500 antenna for Both Satellites, Magnetic should be about 180. No Skew.

IF you insure that the setup is true and use the above, you should be near enough to get a usable signal at which point, you can tweak for optimal reception, including skew. Elevation can be especially critical for optimal signal.

As far as the choice between Direct and Dish, Quien Sabe ?

They both offer mostly the same lineup except for sports.
Direct is the choice if you're going to pay extra for NFL programming.

We have Dish service at our casita in San Felipe. We set it up through a business there and the only drawback is that our locals are from Yuma, which is no big deal.

We're going with the Dish Network and dropping the DirecTV only because we can include it with our net yet installed (this Saturday) service for San Diego. Dropping Time Warner Cable too here in San Diego.

What we enjoy the most on either Satelite service is the Music channels, then we just watch the usual shows in the evening, and of course the Weather Channel.

Did the installation this past week, peice of cake.

Used the same mount and just attached the new Dish to it, borrowed some coordinates from BajaRob and had it up and running after a couple of calls to Customer service to activate the Receiver. They were very helpful and we had excellant reception and uninterupted service. Suprisingly we even get local channed XETV 6 so we can catch the morning and evening news. We really only use it for the music which they use Serius for their music then a little TV when it becomes night time.

P.S. We are only being charged an additonal $5 monthly to our San Diego bill after purchasing the dish for $50 and the receiver for $99.

I have Directv in SF. Friends have Dish and complain of networks being turned off and on by Dish.

Does Direct TV not work there? I have Direct TV at home and want to install a dish at the Percebu house. So when I come down, I'll bring a receiver.

They are for the Dish satellites located at 110 deg west and 119 deg west. I believe the primary DirecTV satellite is still at 101, although they DO have satellite feeds at 110 and 119. The Three-LNB Direc "antenna" aims at 101-110-119, BUT their 110 feed is solely HD and uses a different frequency, I believe. At least, that's what I've read. At one time, I found a super deal on the three-LNB setup and was going to purchase a couple reasoning I could use it for DISH and later, DirecTV if I decided to switch. I found it wouldn't work at that time because the Middle LNB was different. I assume that hasn't changed.

DirecTV works fine south of San Felipe. I know many who are using it, including my neighbor to the South. A lot of customers down there switched from DISH when they lost the East Coast Network feeds. If they'd waited, they would have been able to sign up for those through All-American at Nine Bucks monthly for both East and West, although it's gone up a bit since then.

DirecTV works great down here.

We went with DishNetwork at home in San Diego because we like the programming better that DirecTV (which I had in
south campos fro 12 years).

I have heard that the programming is a little fussy for Dish but I heard that from people in my campo that have service from San Felipe.

My service is from San Diego, we're even getting local San Diego stations, it is differant. Now, we've only used it 6 consecutive days in the South Campos but it worked perfectly all day all night even with the wind we experianced last week.

Before removing my DirecTV sat dish I made some marks on the mounting pole and replaced the dish with the DISH sat and simply moved it 10 degrees to the south just as my installer in San Diego said to do and got it very close then just honed it in using the "point dish" screen on MENU then locked it in. Plus, as I mentioned before I used coordinates from a neighbors dish using a simple compass.

We are heading back down in two weeks from today so I'll give you guys an update as to how it turns back on again. BTW, I am powering the Receiver with a separate Inverter so it will not be without power. One of my neighbors told me it's a real pain to boot back up after not having power to it for some period of time. We always turn power off to the house when we're gone except for the alarms and security lights.

The Customer Service line was great, they had to activate the Receiver which took some time and they walked me through a few commands and trained the remote to the TV and STEREO (for sound). I just used their 800 # then converted that to a 880# and didn't drop the call or anything.

So far so good.

I think we will enjoy most is the ability to become familiar with one system and rely on the channels we watch most often. Plus, one bill is conviniant.
