LORETO, Mexico - A magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck the Sea of Cortez in the Gulf of California but there were no reports of injury or damage.
The quake struck at 3:41 p.m. Wednesday, 50 miles northeast of Loreto, the U.S. Geological Survey said in a news release. A message left for a
California Institute of Technology seismologist in Pasadena, Calif., was not immediately returned late Wednesday.
A call to the Posada de las Flores, the city's largest hotel, rang unanswered late Wednesday.
