Diane, this is a pretty good one. Congrats!!!

Trash, the dead tree, crows, and a barren lanscape.

Very good.

A statement without words. I like it.

Must be a BCS dump. If it was Norte, there'd be a whole lot more plastic bags flapping in the breeze.

I always enjoy your trips to the dump, Diane. Believe I agree with Igor, this is the best trip yet.;D:yes:
Even being the dump, it's really quite beautiful.
This is your photo which I might call haunting.

Guess I need to hang out at the dump---it is always a nice trip out there, but it gets a little smelly so I don't want to stay too long.

Thanks
Diane

What a Dump !

Diane,

That really is a nice photograph. Is it the only thing you returned home with?

And what a personality Bette Davis was even into old age with her classic appearances on the Tonight Show.

And "What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?'" --- twas one of my favorite Davis movies. John's is Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte.

I think this is one of your best.

Is that the Asuncion Dump, the plateau looks kind of familiar...but then there are a lot of reddish alluvial pediments with whitish ash and sandy sediments beneath them in Baja.... I notice there was no smoke plume from burning.

Nature wastes nothing that it can reuse, sadly plastic bags are not easily reusable. It was fun, on my last trip, to use my reusable canvas bags at the local markets. Locals were curious but cool with it. I hope that they were not laughing at me...but I will keep it up. Maybe I'll try to get one stenciled for Bahia Asuncion before I come back down... The residents may like the idea. Even if not, I'd like it and that's enough.

Yes, that is just a little part of the Bahia Asuncion Dump---they do burn out there, just does not show here. We actually feel guilty taking our trash and dumping it there, but at least they are trying to keep it in one area. Unfortunately, many people dump before they get there, but they are beginning to watch for that.

We really do enjoy driving out there because it is BEAUTIFUL around there---you would love the area.

Hate plastic! Our friend who works for the Preserve would LOVE the idea of reusable canvas bags, or even reuseable plastic ones like we used in Honduras. Our friend hates the trash as does our delegado. We would love to introduce you and your reuseable bag to them.

Just had another idea---will U2U you!

Also, you will be happy to know that our friend is hoping to create a recycle place for plastic bottles---that would be a big help.

Look forward to your next visit to BA

A couple of month's ago we camped at the dump next to Alfonsinos. Hey, it was the least windiest place I could fine, OK !?

Alex didn't like it though. He quoted Ms Davis frequently. :(:(

Plastic sucks.. if non-biodegradable plastic is the future, future we're doomed.

Years ago on a train to Oaxaca all the locals were throwing their trash out the window as we went along. I put all my trash in a bag and threw it away at a station.

I noticed at about hour 7 of our ten hour train ride, the 18 year old college kid next to me started keeping his trash inside too. We both threw it away at the next station. There is hope.

My theory is/was that plastics are new to many Mexicans. The old waste of tortillas, bones, ceramics, and glass.. blend back into the earth shortly.. Plastics.. wind up just floating down to the ocean and collecting in a morass of floating pollution that is ingested by sea life and in turn humans.

There is hope; but, only through respect of others.. to respect others and your planet is to respect yourself.

All this being said, I understand that many places in Mexico do not have traditional "dumps" and even the garbage I saved on my train ride probably wound up in the arroyo.

OK, Where did those birds go?
