Baja! Too go or not to Go??

Skeet/Loreto - 3-31-2009 at 03:51 PM

Baja! That wonderful place to go to that I can escape the Rabble of Todays Pressures.
The Beautiful Lonely Beaches, The Great People, The different Culture, The Fishing, The Sunsets, The Mountains, The Lost Missions!

First : Do not be Fearful-Never be Afraidi Be Cautious- Be Watchful/

If you have never been to Baja and want to go and Adventure there are a few Firsts.

Try to learn as much Spainish as you can, then on your first trip practice with those mexcano people you meet{ They love to help you}.

Do Not go through San Ysidro go through TECATE.

Do Not drive at Night.!!!!!!!!!

The first day go as far as San Quintin:

If you are driving South of San Quintin and come on a Car parked in the Road way with people, stop , back up and come back later with a Truck or other People.

Remember that in Baja "Time: is not important. Try to leave the Time Schedile ion the States.
After leaving San Quintin go as far as GN and stay at the Don Gus, then the next day go on to Loreto or la Paz.

After you get to Baja Sur and want to go and spend time on the Beach, Talk to the Locals, Mexicanos and Americanos, ask them where the best place is for you as a newcomer to Camp.

Get to know the Locals, Talk and practice you Spanish. Please try to understand their ways and customs.

Go to BAJA!! Adventure! Do not be Afraid!!

All I know is that the last time I stayed at Don Gus in GN, they had a hardcore porn channel on the TV. Is that the reason for the recommendation?

I would add traveling with a dog or two. A big dog.

Better than a dog, just travel with Common sense. Don't go overboard on the PARANOIA. Simple things like talking with others in town and Pemex Stations. I notice Canadians easily slip into travel groups or at least watch out for each other. At other times locals and resident Anglos have been generous and helpful.

In fact, even with all the terror stories bandied about on these pages, I am at just as much risk driving to a job site of from the Bay Area to San Diego as I would be in Baja. Sure I've had my car rifled and things stolen once or twice. But on the balance have received more help and friendship than these minor incidents cost, far more.

If you wish believe every terror tale.. stay home. Stay wherever YOU are comfortable. Stay in Large Groups. I want you to feel comfortable and happy. I hope you will respect my right to do the same.

Searching ?

One question Skeet.

If the Missions are LOST, who do you ask for directions ?

SKIDS - 3-31-2009 at 05:36 PM

We go to BOLA fishing 2-3 times a year . We normally travel in 2 trucks , one towing a trailer. We cross the border at TJ about 5:00 a.m. ( the bad guys are me-me ). Stop in Maneadero for ice, El Rosario for a bite to eat. and get to BOLA ABOUT 3:00. We are heading down June 11 for a week if any one whats to caravan.
