I don't live there, so I'm not sure which or weather there is a difference between the two. I think they both basically need to simply point in the
direction of their link and you are in business.
Which every you decide to go with DON'T Call either for your equipment as they will require a tech to come hook it up an verify the connection--I had
to put on my tap shoes to get around that one.
Buy your set up from a retailer and watch out for Ebay deals as many of the cards and boxes do not match.
I have DirecTv and I love it and as I go else where and see Dish's set up I'm so happy that I do have DTV.

Actually Direc seems to be easier to setup down here in BOLA. The few Dish systems that I have set up have been problems because I had to use 2
dishes, one aimed at the 110 sat and one aimed at the 119. The small Dish 500 dish with with 2 lnbs didn't work well because we seem to be too far
south of the sat foot print. Any way Directv is pretty easy just one dish 24' to 30 inch seems to work fine.

Hi. I've attempted on my last two trips to get my directv working at my place at Geckos. I mounted a 5LNB slim dish and connected it to my receiver
that I brought down from home. Everything works at home (I haven't actually connected THIS dish but my box works fine). Problem is I can find a good
signal on 101 and then tilt the dish and cannot get the other sats. Larry - you mention the sat footprint. I think I understand what you are saying -
meaning that the four satellites do not align property at this longitude to get them all within the beam that the dish can pick up. Is this a lost
cause or do I have hope? My home service is HD and local channels. I am not using my HD receiver in Baja, just one of the regular receivers I use in
my garage and disconnect and take with me when I travel south. The first time I tried this a few months ago I actually got an HBO channel for a few
minutes. Then I screwed it up when I tried more adjustments and it never came back. But when I brought the receive home it dials in and works fine,
which suggests to me it is the dish or my alignment, or lack thereof. Thanks.

Hi larryC - that's interesting re DIRECTV. I had understood that due to their re-aiming their satellite footprints, they were essentially out of the
Baja/Mexican business.
You certainly can't get their signals down here in Baja Sur so we switched to DISH - and yes, you need two dishes, one for 110, one for 119.

Hey Rob,
You're spot on about the 101 DirecTV satellite down here but it still has some signal further North. Satellite beams are more like flashlight beams
than laser beams - they get gradually weaker and weaker as you move off center. Some, like the 101 bird have a steeper cutoff but no satellite can
stop it's signals right at the border. 
Are you still getting the 110° DN satellite where you are? What size dish are you running for it? If you want to try picking up some more HD, try
swinging it around to the 129°.

Hi Alan - re 110, never got around to the second dish, but have two friends using 110 and they haven't complained. I will pass on your 129 info.
OK - how do you get the little "o" for your degrees? I know you are technologist, but that's just exhibitionism . . .
