Vizcaino Pemex stations

Was it just our imagination, or did the new station south of town have some issues with the pump readings?

The station in town at the Y seemed to be fair, but we sure got a lot of gas (per the pump) for the driving we had done prior to the stop....

Inquiring minds must ask....

I tried the new station three times. My car has a scan gauge so I know how much fuel I need and every time they pumped about 15% more than I thought should fill the tank. More troubling, twice I had to wait with the attendant by the pump while he signaled to an employee sitting at a computer in the upstairs office. The attendant said the pump needed to be "reset". BTW, two stops was enough to be suspicious of the calibration, but I stopped the third time just to carefully observe the interaction with the office.

Thanks for that,
We generally fill both vehicles on the same pump/meter, and part of the driving on that stretch was up to the mountains at San Francisco, so it was hard to be precise,
but I would say that easily 15-20% was not received.

Others need to take note,

guess when you sit out there all alone on the highway you need to screw the troops to make ends meet.

Oh, and another clue....
two attendants, and both most attentive to stuff like tire pressure (I was re-airing after the off-road jaunt) windows, etc.

they never give you good service unless they are trying to screw you over

with the exception of Baja Cactus, of course

I'm guessing that the new station is not affiliated with the ownership of the station at the Y. I was told told more than once to not fill up at the station in Guerrero Negro near the bank. Maybe that's the owner.:tumble:

IMHO I think everytime a Nomad goes near that station we should stop in and say "We need gas but have heard you run a crooked station so we will go someplace else". Does anyone think they might get the message?

Pemex must run a school somewhere where they teach their attendants how to put 22 to 23 liters in a 19 liter can.
Common here in Loreto, almost magical.

When the old station in Santa Rosalia was busted for shorting deliveries and it became a well known fact that this was the worst station in the whole peninsula, they were still amazed that when the new station opened in town that their business dropped to almost zero. Now, the only people we see stopping there are tourists who do not know any better and an occasional truck from town who has a voucher. When talking to one of the attendants, he kept questioning how business could drop off so fast.
This may have some relevance to the new station in Vizcaino because I hear that it was built by the same guy who owns the old station in Santa Rosalia, San Ignacio, the two stations in Guerrero Negro, and the old station in Vizcaino.

Don't doubt what you are saying. But at the same time, I've been told twice by locals in GN to avoid the station in town, in favor of the original Vizcaino station. On the other hand, I can see where, given the local economy, it would be very likely that all the stations in the area would be run by the same folks. So, on a Southbound trip, I'll fill up at Jesus Maria, and hope to make it to Mulege.

We really don't keep a really close measurement, but we use the old station in Vizcaino on a regular basis and have never had any overt problems. We like the people who work there, especially the older window washers.

We drove into the new one once, didn't like their attitude, left and went back to the old one.

We never stop in Jesus Maria anymore because of the bathrooms---- gag. Now the ones at the old station in Vizcaino are not great, and you may need your own paper, but the ones at Jesus Maria were really gross the last few times we tried to stop there.

We had the same sense of a rip off and unpleasantness at the new Vizcaino station. Must be true. Too bad, we thought a new station might be an asset to the community.
Not going back there.

I stopped there Tuesday night and paid about 740 pesos for roughly 24 gallons. I was more concerned w/ the flat I incurred coming into town due to a pothole. The attendants helped me change it and be on my way in 10 minutes. Luckily I stopped there for gas as that is when I heard the tire leaking. It was approx 9:15 pm and I was headed for San Ignacio for the night. Nice moon to drive under on tuesday.

Let me guess...

Check your owner's manual,
your rig probably does not hold 24 gallons:yes::yes::yes:

bajario - 4-11-2009 at 12:56 PM

It was 3/4 of a tank of an approx 33 gallon tank.
