Spent a few days in San Diego and drove back to Baja today. Despite the few rain showers, the beaches all looked packed with campers at La Mision,
Baja Seasons, Mirador....tons of traffic leaving La Bufadora area (thank God we were traveling in the opposite direction!) around 3:30-4:00 when the
sprinkles started. Campo La Jolla looks pretty well packed with weekenders as well.bajalou - 4-10-2009 at 06:12 PM

Full of who? Do you see as many Norteamericanos as usual or mostly the Mexicali-urban Mexican crowd now?

Semana Santa is always 95 percent Mexican, mostly from Tijuana and Mexicali but a lot from southern Calif also. There are very few gringos that come
for it but the number of gringos coming to their own places is about the same.
I went to Percebu' today and it was wall to water tents, also on the road beside the dunes just south of town. And the pink abandoned place just
before the split in the highway to the airport or Puertecitos was solid cars from the top to the bottom of the road. On my trip from my place to
Percebu' and back (and I took back streets in town), I saw about 40 police vehicles - motorcycles, trucks and cars and I heard they had their mobile
command post parked downtown. They cleared a lot just east of the police station and had a helicopter there yesterday. They usually bring in an
additional 2-300 police from Mexicali for this week.
As I said - about usual for Good Friday in San Felipe.
One thing that is different, it's sprinkling here this evening.

They're here. I personally don't care who they are or where they are from. They're HERE and having a good time, enjoying their holiday and adding
their 2 bits to the economy in their way. Ole!

Thanks Lou... I remember the many years that it was a rare thing to see anyone but gringos on vacation. Mexico's middle class has sure grown... Heck,
even PRI was defeated by PAN... THINGS DO CHANGE!!!

There are a lot of folks camped out along the coastline west of San Quintin. Pulled two out of the sand today and one yesterday - two Gringo families
from SoCal and one Mexican family from Tijuana.

Took a ride today along the coast - I think just about ALL of San Quintin may have been at the beach today. Mile after mile gave way to gatherings of
families and friends celebrating this Viernes Santo in the sand and in the wind. Vendors had their wares and nibbles out, the accordion and baja sexto
competed against música norteña screaming from tinny speakers, cranked to the max – Little kids raced each other to the top of the dunes just as the
bigger kids turned their street vehicles into off-road wonders as they were cheered and jeered by the crowds in their attempts to claim the top.
It’s too bad, after so many days of such glorious weather, today’s cut the day short for most of them as the rains came down. Even so, it was a Good
Friday; a nice cleansing, tomorrow’s a new morning – Happy Easter, everybody.
