The rate of fill was 6 PSI per minute...

That is three times faster than the Coleman cigarette lighter air pump (2 PSI per minute)... For those of you in Rio Linda, that's from 12 psi (beach pressure) to 30 psi (highway pressure) in 3 minutes!

Woody, I don't have the one in Doug's Tienda... so I don't know how it compares... I didn't learn of the Baja Tienda model until after I bought mine (from the referal by BajaLou to Harbor Freight).

Doug's is a few dollars more, so I will guess it is BETTER! :biggrin:

I would rather have some profit go to Baja Nomad than Harbor Freight corporate!

I have the Quickair and love it. It amazes me that people skimp on air compressors especially traveling in remote parts of Baja. I rather spend a few hundred bucks more and have some piece of mind. Just my opinion, though....

Thanks Zac... too bad the Harbor Freight one isn't in that comparison, but the fill rate matches (Super Flow & Harbor Freight)... 10-35 psi in 4 minutes... 25 psi/4 min. = ~ 6 psi:min.

Now, what seems real far off is the price... A Super Flow for under $30?

As for times... I have used a Quick Air 2... it was not that quick, and the fill tube failed at the first use! That was in 2001, so maybe they improved it?

The cost is: $300 compared with the Super Flow or Harbor Freight at $25-$75 and here is the tested 4 tire fill times:

Quick Air 2 16:17
Superflow 16:57

For an extra 40 seconds, I will save the $225-$275.

I have had my Quick Air since 1997 and it's still going strong. Durability and longevity are worth $300 bucks to me.

Any of you guys know of a 12v compressor/inflator with adjustable auto shut-off to buy?? I want to fill a tank for onboard air supply to fill & change tires on the road (sort of like my own service truck)

Viair Constant Duty On Board Air System. You might check it out. Fairly heavy duty. Powerful and convenient. Has adjustable auto shut-off, but I use manual. Takes about 2 hours to install on your vehicle, after that your air inflator worries are over.

It works very well in this Jeep. Can inflate anything..and you won't be waiting long. :rolleyes:

I believe that the MV-50 and the Harbor Freight unit are pretty similar overall. Do whatever works out better for you. They're very handy to have. I use my MV-50 just about every time I go off the highway - as I'll air down, and these make it simple to air back up rather quickly.

My MV-50 has a problem that I am wondering if others have. At the two-piece, brass connector to the tire valve, I often get lots of leakage unless the brass connector is completely in-line with the tire valve. Of course, with the tension on the connector created by the yellow coiled air hose, the only way I can keep the brass connector in line is to manually hold it in place while inflation is going on. It's a pain in the burro.

ive gone through many pumps including useing my AC as a pump and hands down co2 tank all the way. theres not many pumps that will reseal a broken bead but co2 will. i have a 10 pounder and a 5 for atv and have never ran out in baja or anywere else.

Hook, I will take a photo of it on the Jeep as soon as I get my replacement camera. My digital Nikon went south...or 'north' in this case. :rolleyes:

Clearance on the pump is not a problem and it's easy access.

I should have a camera on April 24th. Sorry, but that's the best I can do. A local buddy, Polo Ruiz, did the install.

I have a friend that has the Powertank and it is awesome. I plan on buying one soon. It is a quality piece of equipment that would last you a lifetime. To me, time inflating a tire is important - when you are stuck out in the baja sun sweating your rear off you want it done asap! Nice compressor review - good info!!!

I've got the Costco version of this (Q-Max) and it's been working solid for 2 years. No leaks, gets the job done.

If you push in while the brass connector is attached to the tire it has a deflate function. I've found you need to ensure it's pulled all the way back and that leakage will stop.

I need to fill to 60 psi. for the road. With that much air, x4 tires I will be spending 1/2 hour or more filling them. As a result I want something that has a high cfm at high pressure. Have not found one yet. Right now I have a 80cf scuba tank. Works well. If there is a high cfm @ high pressure 12v compressor out there, I am interested.

I have an Extreme Aire II, it fills 265/75/16 tires from about 46 to 70 lbs in about 3.5 minutes. Let's see 3.5 times 4, carry the 1....about 14 minutes. :biggrin:

I've had the pump for about 10 years and it's still going strong. I have it hard mounted in the bumper where a winch would normally go.

Installation took roughly 2 hours. That's Mike doing the Installation work.

Here's the parts that are included.

Almost installed.

Ready to inflate - the Chihuahua was included to show scale.

I inflated a 33" tire in roughly 35 seconds from 5 p.s.i. back up to 18 p.s.i., and the Nomads who watched were very impressed. Viair makes Good stuff!

The Chihuahua was for, "illustration purposes only."LOL This is the "Extreme" setup rated for 37" tires - it comes standard with the two compressors, not just one. I bought this one since I plan to upsize to 35" tires after the 33" tires wear down. The 37"-rated system cost $450 - about $90 more than the 1 compressor system.

Mike (the installer) bought the 1 compressor Viair system, and he is completely satisfied since the 1 compressor airs up the air tank, and although it does not refill the air tank as fast as my system, once the tank is fully filled, it airs up the tires at the same rate.

Thanks for the info Ken. I have one of the smaller units that plug into the cigarette lighter. I could never get all 4 of my tires aired back up before the fuse would blow. I wrapped a gum wrapper around the fuse and "problem solved". Think I'll look into the Viair unit before I catch something on fire.....dt
