Does anyone recycle while down here? Do you know of any communities that take plastic, cardboard, aluminum, glass, tin, batteries, etc.? With all the
gringos in my area, I would like to see more waste be re-used and not just thrown in the desert.
Any sound suggestions?

on the north end of camalu on the east side of the road is a junkyard that ALWAYS has the biggest pile if aluminum cans i've ever seen. my wife gets
tired of me marveling at that pile going down and coming up every time.

You need to get creative in order for this to work since normal recycling programs are very expensive and sometimes only break even, but in Mexico we
have learned alternative methods.
Aluminum, I have an old man in the village who had a stroke several years ago and he is unable to work but he walks by my house every morning and
picks up all the aluminum cans he can find, so I save all mine for him and he is very grateful for the assistance.
Plastic and cardboard are great building materials in our village so I used to throw them in the dump and then the people would come and get what
they wanted, but now I put them out in front and they have learned that they are able to take whatever they want and they usually end up as materials
for someones house or residence.
Batteries are very valuable for the leftover lead which the fisherman will gladly take off of your hands in a heartbeat. They make great sinkers
and I have brought down a batch of different lead molds for anyone who has some lead and wants to use them. (And I don't even have to put the stupid
California sticker warning people that lead may be hazardous to their health, not to mention the fish)
Glass, You are just out of luck here unless you want to start a marble factory or something.

There is a recycling program in Pescadero. They take glass, plastic, aluminum and cardboard. It's not cheap... $50 pesos a carload. They are open
every Wed... I believe the hours noon to 2pm. We get together with several others and do one load.
Todos Santos had a recycling program that was very successful but the location was a bit of a problem. I believe they will be starting again on Earth
Day at a new location but they will not be able to accept glass.
