A NEW LOOK AT OLD THINGS: Baja's Missions & Visitas (photos & data pages)

Hi gang,

I have been working on the revision of my Baja Missions web pages for a few weeks now... having improved data on the mission dates, names, and more with a pretty full library I recently have added to. More photos from the past have been added to show what they looked like before go along with the great recent photos from Jack Swords, Kevin Clough, Baja Amy, Baja Cat, academicanarcist, and more.

I wanted to get my facts from the same sources as other Baja authors of the recent past have, and to do that I needed the 1908 (or 1929 revision) of Engelhardt, the 1935 edition of Meigs, and to help clear some details up, I was lucky to receive the 1977 edition of Mathes (thanks to the Nomad who sent that in). Harry Crosby's 'Antigua California' is the best book on the Jesuit period, so his data is pretty much my main source for the Jesuit details.

There are 3 parts (3 web sites) for the new data, plus I added links to all the recent El Camino Real satellite image work and maps that were posted on Baja Nomad a few months ago.

Each of the 3 parts have links to the others. You can go straight from the first page to the mission or visita of interest with links on the first page or simply click on 'next page' (at the bottom) to look at the photos, one page at a time.

I would appreciate if your do find a typo or a mis-spelled word to let me know (u2u is fine)... as the writer I see what my brain remembers I wanted to say, sometimes more than the actual word itself! I am also a poor speller of English words (but a fan of spelling Baja place name correctly)!

Thanks for your past assistance in these projects... I hope it may inspire you to show an interst in these sites ranging from beautiful churches of the 1700's to piles of rock and mounds of adobe. Visit the sites, and show the locals they have value to preserve... some are disappearing fast!
