Semana Santa in Ensenada Blanca this year?

Bielefeld - 4-13-2009 at 11:35 AM

Every year about 5.000 people from Ciudad Constitution and Insurgentes used to camp at this beach south of Loreto.

Now that the development has started I was wondering if they could keep the locals out from the beach. Last year the gouverneur was involved in opening fenced in beaches. TV stations and all.

Some friends who visited even had a hard time from the guards to walk the beach, let alone drive or camp on it.

Any Nomad has news about what happened this year???

Our Mexican neighbor works for the government crew that cleans all the beaches around here. He told us yesterday that they had built palapas at the beach at Ensenada Blanca and the developers had knocked them down. According to our neighbor the developers turned away everyone who came to Ensenada Blanca to camp. He said everyone was quite angry. I don't blame them. I haven't been there in months, I am only assuming that his story is true. The crowds on the city beaches and the beaches north and south of Loreto were way down this year. Town was as quiet as I've seen it this time of year. No bands. No big events. Not sure what the reason is.

Thanks for the update. I am amased the developers could pull through with it. One of the guards told me last year that he was afraid when the beach would be closed and the crowds would be turned away. But if your info is right, they really could pull it off... Again sad for the locals:(
