This guy came visiting last night while I was about to fall asleep. Took awhile to get back to sleep after I sprayed it and lost it. This morning it
was in the bathroom waiting for me.
Anyone know any thing about these? I've had other encounters with them at night. I hate spiders!

that thing isn't a spider. get the aerosol can next time and hit it with a solid shot!!!BajaNomad - 4-20-2009 at 04:38 PM
They've been referred to on here as matavenado, wind scorpions and/or sun spiders. This is at least the third or fourth time the topic's been brought
up.

They are called wind scorpions, wind spiders and I have heard them called vinegaroons (spelling?) There bite can be painful but they are not
poisonous-or so I am told!! I would not want to sleep with one. Review google.David K - 4-20-2009 at 04:40 PM
Camel Spiders and Deer Killers, too!

Pretty little things... although I'd prefer not to meet the real thing.

Can all of you keep them on your side of Baja? Please? 805gregg - 4-20-2009 at 05:56 PM
Don't spray it, more effective to just hit it with the can.Bajagypsy - 4-21-2009 at 06:05 AM
I think I would die, if I found that in my house, and I'm not afraid of bugs! That is one scary looking critter!

Please place him (her?) in the palm of your hand when you take the photo so that we have some perspective of his / her actual size!

Harmless, totally harmless. They eat things like crickets and are actually a desirable predator to have around. Yes, they are ugly. Google "solpugid"
which is their real name.
As Doug said, this has come up a few times.Russ - 4-21-2009 at 07:43 AM
I thought it looked more vicious with out any reference to size. But for those who a curious.....

Oh Geez, did you have to make the picture so big? That woke me up faster than this coffee in front of me! CortezBlue - 4-22-2009 at 12:51 PM
We have them here in Phoenix. They are harmless, they call them a Vinageroo. I was told them smell like vinager when you smash them??JESSE - 4-22-2009 at 02:27 PM
They are totally harmless, they bite because they have jaws, but are very beneficial because they eat other pesky bugs.Pappy Jon - 4-22-2009 at 03:26 PM

Actually, the vinegaroon is a different beast. I've always wanted one as an office pet. Now they are cool looking. Another name for them is whip
scorpions, but most call them vinegaroon.

Maybe it's harmless, but it still gives me the heebie jeebies!nancyinpdx - 4-22-2009 at 10:16 PM
Me too! If I saw one I'd die of a heart attack!Bajahowodd - 4-22-2009 at 11:17 PM
Not unlike the potato bug. Fierce looking but harmless. They are native of Egypt. Can't fault anyone from feeling totally "crawly". We humans are
programed to react to such things.
