ATM OR BANK IN LAS BARILLAS?

Howard - 4-22-2009 at 06:27 PM

It has been a couple of years since I have been to LB and I forgot, is there an ATM machine in town and/or a bank to either exchange green backs for pesos or use an ATM card to get pesos? If there is an ATM machine, where is it?

Thanks

There are 2 banks in town and both have ATM machines. They will exchange dollars for pesos but be sure to bring your passport. Best just to use the ATM....dt

Dollars spend easy in town but it's good to have pesos too.

Thank you for the information and we always try and pay in pesos in Mexico.

Best to just rely on the ATMs, as the banks sometimes won't change dollars for pesos, even if you have an account there. One week one will, the next week the other will. Otherwise you can use the money exchange at Tony's next to El Viejo tacos.

Is he the spelling police?

David K - 4-23-2009 at 07:46 AM

No, I am the Baja place name teacher... For educational purposes... nobody gets fined or arrested!

I would think that if we love a place, we should at least learn how to spell it correctly, yes?

LOS BARRILES

Remember, that two L's together make a y sound, in Spanish... easy way to remember if the L's or the R's get doubled. :D

I was just kidding about being corrected by the spelling police. It was a typo. on my part but I do not mind being corrected in a polite way which is your intention.

Do not forget about the pronunciation of the "h"s such as in heilo or is it hielo? (ice)

David K - 4-23-2009 at 08:33 AM

Right you are Howard... the H is silent, in Spanish. It is hard for us to say Bahia (Bay) as Bah-ee-ah, instead of Baa- HEE- ah!

Hielo is ice (almost sound like YELLOW, but more like Yea-Low with the silent H).

But, I better stick to just helping with place names, as it won't be long before the DK police point out I don't speak Spanish (fluently)!

Actually his interpretation is probably accurate, I can't recall him correcting my spelling other than place names....dt

Banamex LB

Cardon Man - 4-23-2009 at 05:11 PM

I just tried to exchange dollars for pesos at the Banamex in LB last week. They would not do it since I don't have an account there yet. Luckily a buddy was there so he deposited the dollars into his account and was able to withdraw pesos for me. I have exchanged dollars for pesos there in the past, I guess the policy has changed.

Thank you... you are correct, as I am a poor English speller and would never correct anyone on just 'regular words'!:light:
