From what I gather, the race starts today up in NB and makes its way down to Ensenada. Does anyone know when the main body of the race arrives in
Ensenada? I wanna make it down there to watch.

authorities) wasn't allowed to sail in the Ensenada race - so he started his own. HIs race leaves Newport an hour before the first and does not go to
Mexico- it turns around at the Coronado Islands for a party in San Diego. How many sailors will end up in Ensenada?- It depends how much they are

There were 272 boats entered in the race as of Wednesday....most will sail through the night and will arrive in Ensenada throughout the day tomorrow.
Slow boats will get in late tomorrow night....and will be disqualified if they don't cross the finish line by noon on Sunday.tripledigitken - 4-24-2009 at 01:36 PM
A few notes on the race:
The record for a monohull was less than 11 hours. That was Pyewacket in 2003.
The record for a multhull is less than 7 hours (by the late Steve Fossett) on the Stars and Stripes cat in 1998, which finished before sundown and
nobody has come close since.
Typically the bulk of the fleet will arive Saturday during daylight hours.
I was lucky enough to sail it in the early 70's on a Ranger 26. When the sun came up outside Ensenada harbor on Sat morning we were becalmed and
right in front of us as the fog burned off were 12 of the big boys also going nowhere fast. An incredible adventure!

I got down to Ensenada tonight and went out with some friends on a nighttime boat ride (the ones you can hire from the port) and at about 8:45 we
spotted (what we think was) the first yacht heading to the finish. I'm not sure who it was but it had its sails up and was taking advantage of the
south wind. As soon as it reached the finish marker boat, they took their sails down. The skipper of our boat said that the race started at 4pm up
there and if that's the case, the winner this year blew the 7 hour record away by a whopping 2 hours...IF that was the lead boat AND IF the race

Seems unlikely. Wasn't much wind today here in SoCal. But certainly possible.
I double checked, the race started at 12pm.
