Who is canceling a trip to San Felipe this weekend due to the flu?

CortezBlue - 4-27-2009 at 09:45 PM

Ok, we had a long weekend planed for our casa in SF, but we are wondering if we should stay put or sneak down?
Anyone else have the same dilemma?

bajabound2005 - 4-27-2009 at 09:46 PM

nope! We're going!

xpertears - 4-27-2009 at 09:53 PM

We are heading down to SF and then onto Gonzaga on bikes. I figure if i drink enough tequila how can the flu stand a chance?

BajaWarrior - 4-28-2009 at 04:32 AM

We're still planning on going this coming weekend and attending the Chili Cookoff on Saturday if it's still happening...

Bajagypsy - 4-28-2009 at 06:05 AM

We are still planning on going. Tequila and beer, that is what my doctor said to take for it.

bajabound2005 - 4-28-2009 at 07:23 AM

cook-off is ON!

came down last night

doradodan - 4-28-2009 at 07:38 AM

smooth trip, school is cancelled til the sixth of may. 10 mile stretch of dirt road sucks big time. see you at the cook off.

Don't come back Sick

MrBillM - 4-28-2009 at 09:55 AM

According to Janet Nappy's Homeland Insecurity Press Conference ayer, the Border Inspectors (ours) are being instructed to detain ANYONE entering who appears to be sick for referral to the CDC.

Asked IF CDC officials were going to be on-site at all crossings, she said that they could be at the larger crossings and, at others, they would be called in while the detainees were segregated in a room at the facility. She said it wasn't a Quarantine, but a detention.

Boy, I'm glad she cleared that one up.

Assuming that they don't have a whole bunch of rooms, I can picture being stuck in some little room with a bunch of SICKOS. If you didn't have the Swine going in, they'll take care of that.

Came back from SF 4 days ago, Sat. crossed
back at Calexico, just ahead
of the concerns. That 10 mi.
detour off pavement
near the Military checkpoint
at Hwy 3, wears on your mind,
as I didn't know how long it was.
Adds only 17 minutes or so,
just seems longer, mild/moderate
washboard

CortezBlue - 4-28-2009 at 11:06 AM

Yes, since Janet Nappy was my Govenor, and she didn't make me happy, is in charge of the border, I am concearned about getting back into the country. It seems to me that everyone had a nasty flu/cold in SF back in Jan and Feb.

Phx Flying Sams just moved their may clinic trip back a week.
and that is wait and see.

I think the Cancun area is where the biggest concerns are.

Swine Flu threat in the U.S. is now over.

MrBillM - 4-28-2009 at 12:58 PM

Today, at a joint press conference, Nappy and Vilsack declared there is "NO Swine Flu. This is NOT Swine Flu".

It is now H1M1.

I'm thankful for such quick action on the part of the Health Authorities.

Actually, Vilsack admitted in questioning that the whole name change to its official designation is Political and Economic since the "SWINE" appellation is hurting U.S. Pork and Grain sales.

Changing the name (per Vilsack and Nappy) will cure that problem.

OK. Sure. I Believe that. Why wouldn't I ?

One thing that is absolutely sure is that this has brought on a Pandemic of marooonic News Commentators. One Politico who suggested we should consider closing the border was attacked by the Newsman as "Closing the Barndoor" since we've already seen instances of the Flu North of the Border.

Now, there's a great argument. No point in trying to STOP More infective sources since SOME have already arrived. That argument could be used against the stated policy of trying to identify sickness at the border. WHY Bother ? That genius should go to work for the CDC.

Anyway, NO More Swines. Spread the Word.

Meanwhile, Carnival Cruise Lines has cancelled stops at Mexican Ports. Closing the Barndoor (or hatch in this case ?).

Never in my life have I heard so much BS about so few people getting ill. It's unreal! You'd think people were dieing like flies. They aren't. Are we turning into a society of "Chicken Littles"?

BajaGeoff - 4-28-2009 at 01:35 PM

I would imagine San Felipe is a safer bet than California right now. Schwarzenegger just declared a "state of emergency" yet he said there is "no cause for alarm"...whatever that means.

Casey67 - 4-28-2009 at 01:35 PM

Cypress: "Are we turning into a society of "Chicken Littles"?"

Turning? I'm pretty sure that already happened, although that won't likely be apparent here much. The terrified masses would have you believe that Mexico was unsafe for travel long before the drug cartel wars and the swine flu. Nomads are the exception and see through the hysteria.

It means he wants federal money, because we're broke.

BajaGeoff - 4-28-2009 at 01:55 PM

Right.....good point DanO!

Posted on The Net in San Felipe late this afternoon

28 April, 2009 - Tuesday. UPDATE: Dr. Abasolo just returned from a meeting with the health officials in Mexicali. There are NO confirmed cases of Swine Flu in Baja California - only suspect. If you are experiencing flu like symptoms, it is more than likely the normal virus we get each year.

As a full-time resident I am extremly worried that they may not allow spectators at our 2nd Divison fútbol game on Sunday and our 3rd Divison fútbol playoff game on Saturday! Not really as Colima to date has not had any cases or any suspected cases.

Live life, all of it involves risks!

fdt - 4-28-2009 at 09:33 PM

Every single event that was programed anywere in the country has been cancelled or postponed until after May 6th . Seems odd that the only one not advising people of a change of dates or cancelation is this chili cook off. :?::?::?:

http://www.bajacalifornia.gob.mx/portal/noticia_completa.jsp...

All masive events are cancelled, State or city.

MrBillM - 4-28-2009 at 09:44 PM

Listening to the Talking Heads discuss the Pig Panic and dismissing worries with "Hey, 36K die every year from the Flu, there's nothing to worry about", I could picture some Official in 1918 saying "People die all the time from the Flu, this is nothing special".

Guaymas has canceled their annual Calamari Festival set for this weekend.

But the good news: the Ryndam Cruise ship has canceled their stop in Guaymas, too.

Not that very many people from the cruise ships make it over to San Carlos.......
