Speedy Gonzalez seems to have gone off into the sunset with the intent of staying there permanently. Too bad--his posts added some sparkle to the
Nomad board.
Speedy's view that Baja California should never be abbreviated to "Baja" struck me as a lost cause, but I've got a peeve of my own that's just as
futile: the failure of the northern state to add "Norte" to its official name.
Most of my book buys are made via the Internet, and "Baja California" in the title can mean either the whole peninsula or just the northern state. I'm
primarily interested in the Sur, and it really p*sses me off to order a book whose title sounds like it covers all of BC, only to find it's concerned
only with the state of Baja California.
When I finalize my Weapons of Specific Destruction and take over the world, that state is going to be renamed "Baja California Norte."

added another perspective, Lee. But he was virtually thrashed out the door by those who couldn't stand the competition.David K - 6-12-2004 at 11:37 PM
Hardly the case... I think we all enjoyed him. Specially us Baja history nuts (Lera, AA, & myself included). Even after he became pig headed when he
refused to accept the written evidence that the inter-mission trail in Baja Ca. was indeed called 'El Camino Real'.
Just re-read the exchanges... nobody here was unkind to him. I think the problem was he was pretending to be (or preceived to be) a native Mexican and
many of you fell for it.
He was getting close to being 'found out' perhaps? A few of you did suspect his racially derogatory handle was a bit odd for a Mexican to use.
I wish he did not run off Nomad, but maybe he left La Paz and hasn't an Internet connection in his home country...? Mike Humfreville - 6-13-2004 at 12:01 AM
This will be the second time I've posted this question (unless I made an error): What was the posting name of SG?????BajaNomad - 6-13-2004 at 12:23 AM

Baja California

Now that you brought it up, I'll add my pet peeve about the names. I believe I live in a state with a perfectly good name, Baja California, Mx.
The adding or "Norte" is like wanting Virginia to add "East" or "Old" to the country of Mexico so people could tell where they are. So, sorry, lera,
can't agree with you on this one.
And SG did add a little to the board, causing some of us to look up a little more references for what we think.
Antigua California

Antigua California would be the best name for Baja California Sur, IMHO. Afterall, that part of the peninsula was the first area to be called
California... the original California!
I bet Harry Crosby would agree!bajalera - 6-13-2004 at 02:10 PM
Fair enough, Bajalou--I don't defend lost causes, and books about Baja California that don't mention BCS usually have something useful in them,
anyway.
