I'm looking for a place to beach camp in the summer, when it's too hot in La Paz. I apologize for being GPS ignorant. I've screen-printed this area
from Google. I think it's accesible by 4WD (or 2Wd?), but does anyone know about the beach area?

When you head out from La Paz to the north you will find find roads to the beach at about 70-80km to Chivato and Innocentes which are pasable but
sandy and narrow and the next is the exit to El Conejo marked by a sign on the carretera which is a nice place to camp and the road to Conejo is
easily passable. They sell clams there and there is a great surf break and lots of beach. You can access by 2wd since the road is mostly over hard
surface then make your way south and if you can make go back to La Paz via Chivato (not the chivato on the cortez side-this one is different).
Once at the beach you can go north or south to los innocentes and find more pricate beaches or cliffs to camp on-the more you go the more likely you
want 4wd. There is a semi-organized campground at el conejo, that is parking spots and garbage cans and such and they charge $40 pesos though really I
don't believe the person charging has the right to do so consider that.
Further north on the carretera or main freeway is the small town of Pocitas at km113 where you will find an artisan shop and llantera both are
excellent as is the restaurant for a bite and bus stops.
More to the north at km 117 or a bit past is a dirt road which goes straight to the ocean over sandy dirt. I think you make it fine in 2wd but if you
get stuck you will be at the mercy of passerbys.
Your circle looks like it is a bit south of el conejo though its hard to say, I do go there, starting at el conejo and I found my way out to the
carretera but the road was tight, very sandy and would be difficult to find and pass if you went your first time alone.
So it sound like El Conejo is your first target-its only about 45-60 minutes from el Centro La Paz so you can make it a day trip too.

Hi --After you leave La Paz and climbing to the top of the mesa -- past the micro wave towers there is a good road to Reforma Agria 1 (Bus Stop on
highway) you can follow it out to the beach with a 2 wheel drive or you can go further north to Reforma Agria 2 (Bus Stop) and follow that road out to
the beach. There are a couple of developments and the power lines go to the beach. The road along the beach wanders inland and back to the coast and

Another beautiful drive is to head north from Todos Santos. The direct route to Pt. Conejo is just south of El Cien but from La Paz the other routes

The coastal road is the route for the Dos Mares (Two Seas) offroad race, which was supposed to run today but was cancelled due to the flu epidemic.
If you are off roading and see black arrows on a red background they are router markers for a race. You can check the schedule for the southern Baja
off road races at http://www.elpatorojo.com/epr/v2/ . The schedule is at the bottom of the page under U-PRO. This is just a warning that the week before the event
and race day there are going to be race cars and prerunners running the roads at high speeds and it can be really dangerous if you are going the wrong

Baja Nomad 'Rob' lives in that area, at La Aguja (south of Punta Conejo)... If you do a Nomad search of posts by Rob, I think he posted photos some

OK - that explains dirt bike and car noise last weekend behind the house. I'm in Centenario and as the crow (or dirt bike) flies, that beach area is
really close. I look forward to exporing. Thanks for the info.
