Source for distilled water?

astrobaja - 5-5-2009 at 08:17 AM

Hey all,

I have found very small bottles of distilled water at Refracionarias but sometimes they have colours added and I need pure distilled water in a large (like one gallon) container to clean the mirrors of my telescopes.
Any ideas on a source for larger size jugs of agua distillada??

thanks!

you could try making your own:

Car parts stores and solar power stores carry it for batteries. Also check the Arrowhead Brand water that you may see in grocery stores -- sometimes it is distilled water rather than Spring Water.

The Labs for testing your blood and others need it so you might be able to get info from them. Good luck!

If you're at all close to one, CCC carries it. Oddly enough, the one in CSL stocks it in the cold case.

BCSTech: ok not quite awake enough yet.... what is CCC?

the El Arco hardware, etc stores down here in BCS carry it. also check any marine or rv stores around your area.

CCC is a depatment/grocery store in Southern Baja. You can sometimes get distilled water in the pharmacy in Sorrianos.

Water that has been purified by reverse osmosis should work fine for your needs. Most laboratories don't use actual "distilled water", but rather they use "reagent grade" water that is generally made on-site by reverse osmosis. Most of the water purification stations in Baja use RO.

Wal Mart - Distilled Water 75 cents a gallon

Question.

When I run my dehumidifier it collects 3 to 5 gallons of water per day, would this water be considered distilled, purified or neither?

another question about water processing

Mulegena - 5-11-2009 at 10:01 AM

Is water rendered distilled when it is processed by reverse-osmosis ?
Most towns sell drinking water as such.

I've just googled the question: no, reverse osmosis does not produce distilled water.

not an expert, but my understanding is-

Distilled refers to a heat-steam-condensation-collection process.

R.O. is passing room temp water through filters and membranes. to remove impurities.

Spring water is just that, from a spring, maybe filtered.

could tell you more about UV purification if desired~

backnine-
I wouldn't call it distilled, since that refers to heat-steam-condensation.

Purified is a pretty loose term, and can mean anything from bleach-treated to R.O. to filtered to UV treated to....

depending on the A.H.J. (authority having jurisdiction) "purified" can mean anything.

edit for sp.
