I'm a beer lover. Pacifico was my favorite mex brew while living in Denver. Moving around most of the mexican lager spectrum past 2 years living
here, Pacifico still rules my frig.
Changed up at the Grupo Modelo Agencia in Esenada this week for fun. Bought a case of Pacifico Light ballenas.
COMO AGUA...What was I thinking? It's been a while, but, Corona must have more flavor than P.L. Now I have a liquid for enough meat marinade for the
rest of 2009.
PLight should only be served to those who don't like beer.

my wife likes "watered down" beer i.e. natural light, etc... she enjoyed it a couple weeks ago, but you're right.
full bodied ballenas for me!!!!Hook - 5-8-2009 at 09:45 AM
I like the new Pacifico light. It's got more flavor than Tecate light and it avoids the peculiar taste of Corona light and Modelo light.
And I like having a light alternative that is lower in alcohol. I often drink beer for the taste, not the buzz, especially when boating. I dont like
soft drinks much. Pacifico light refreshes without knocking me out in the hot sun. It's only 3%.
My other favs are Tecate, Pacifico, Negras, Indio, XX and Bohemia but they are all around 5% alcohol or more. Late afternoon, evening beers for me.
I think Pacifico light is a winner. The agencia over here is selling cases of 24 for 176 pesos; returnable bottles. About 54 cents each right now.
Woody, someone who drinks beer straight from the ballena is probably not into light beers.

One would actually be hard-pressed to find a Mexican beer that hits 5% these days. Once upon a time, most were around 6%. Personally, I could never
wrap my tastebuds around light beer. That being said, regular Tecate is 4.5% which is very close to a number of US light beers, and still maintains a
decent flavor.Hook - 5-8-2009 at 10:56 AM
I believe Negra Modelo is 5.4%. Noche Buena exceeds 5% also.
Not sure about Casta or Indio or Leon. MANY Mexican beers to choose from over here.
Even so, I can tell the difference in effect between a 4.5 beer and a 3.0 beer.CaboRon - 5-8-2009 at 02:52 PM
I thought Pacifico was already light
About on a level with Coors .....

Didn't say you couldn't find one. sure, there are a few. But the mainstream beers did reduce their alcohol content.cantinflas - 5-8-2009 at 04:36 PM

I've never met a lite beer that was worth drinking. I like XX Amber are there any other fuller bodied Mexican beers that I should try next time I'm
down in Baja? I'm always ready to do some research cantinflas - 5-9-2009 at 12:49 PM

Bohemia is my favorite.Bajahowodd - 5-9-2009 at 01:22 PM
Hook mention, among others, Casta. Casta was great stuff. Craft brew. They made three different brews. Used to able to buy it at BevMo. Not too long
ago, one of the big brewers bought Casta and closed their small brewery. I'm told they are brewing it at one of their mega breweries, but haven't seen
it north of the border in quite awhile.rpleger - 5-9-2009 at 01:27 PM

Are you kidding me?
They still brew it, but I only see it in the USA. Gringos in Baja know better
than to poison themselves. Mexicans probably wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
If it ain't broke don't fix it...
