Isla Del Carmen

One of the caves

Old town

Lobo

Illegal gill net at the sea lion rocks. This was probably the most popular sportfishing spot in the Loreto area at the time, and this net was there for several days, at least. Sportfishing boats trolling for cabrilla had to swings around it, so everyone knows about it. That shows just how much the illegal fishermen are in charge here in the so-called "Marine Park."

One of three nearby fish camps and nets on the island

Offshore, dorado

Oh, and while making bait, we caught a bunch of bonefish?

Good report and photos. Looks like the weather was perfect and getting an early dorado was nice. I feel your frustration about the nets too.

Great shots Don. That's the best in the water picture yet of a dorado. I've tried and tried to get one like that but I'm usually too excited for a clean, clear shot like that. Hope you don't mind if I lift it. At times we have tons of bonefish here on our beach. They love squid so when I take my ultralight and bait down there I use tiny barbless hooks and have a ball with them.

Thanks Don for reporting the net I understand it IS being taken care of.

Also our local Marine Park management plan is really being revised this year. Meetings are starting on Wednesday for the commerical and Thursday sportfishing sectors. I plan to attend both and will also have representation via Eco Alianza in the conservation sector. There will be a series of meetings and hearings and we are all scheduled to participate in all of them. They are open to the public. If interested the first sportfishing sector meeting is as UABCS Loreto Campus at 9am thursday May 14th. I'll announce the future meetings as well.
