Need info on secure motel in or just south of Ensenada

24baja - 5-11-2009 at 11:18 AM

We will be coming through Ensenada 5-23 and will need to locate a secure motel for overnight. There will be 2 trucks one towing a 24' boat, will need accomodations for 5 and our friend will probably insist on sleeping in his boat, hence the needed security. Any suggestions? Pricing and phone number or website info would also be appreciated. Lat time we stayed in Ensenada was 1989 so not sure what to expect now. Thanks, Connie & Brett

Santa Isabel is right downtown with guarded parking

24baja - 5-11-2009 at 11:42 AM

Martyman,
Is there room to pull in a 24' boat? thanks. Connie

Martyman - 5-11-2009 at 11:46 AM

Yes there is room. Might have to back out though. No drive thru.

Uh....I'm no Ensenada hotel expert, but I wouldn't stay at the Joker.....go to the accomodations section of Nomad and check the suggestions....this topic comes up every once in a while

Connie,

Some with boats have recommended Hussong's Los Pelicanos just north of town on the right side of the road.

Thanks so much everybody, I have a lot of checking to do, so far it looks like Quintas Papagayos is in the lead. Thanks, Connie

Not sure what your budget is, but Estero Beach is offering ocean view rooms for $59 per couple for midweek stays. It is secure and they definitely have enough room for parking with a boat. I have stayed there a few times and it is nice....

we have always enjoyed Papagayo's just entering Ensenada...lots of room to pull in and around..you can get one of those little cabin type deals too. Call sirenita to show you where to eat...u2u her or me for phone #.

Connie,

My Bad! I gave you the restaurant at Papagayo's not the Hotel name. You've got it sorted out now.

Sorry for the confusion.

Pre-running for the Baja 500 will be in full song by that weekend. Good places for a big rig could be scarce.

Well, it has nothing to do with race week but, we just went to town, stopped at the Bahia for a Bloody Mary and we seemed to be the only two in the entire place. Nobody on the streets and the parking lot was empty. It's almost an eerie ghost-town type of feeling. Lots of shops are closed and the rent goes on.
Still, street parking is a problem and if the city fathers don't use this as a learning opportunity, they never will learn. Almost all of the cars taking up almost all of the street parking are employees and when everything is open, it's worse. The merchants cry poor in good times and don't seem to understand that there's no place for customers to park.

Oh well....Sorry for the hijack rant.
Stay at Quintas Papagayo. It's next door to a five star restaurant, Sanos. Most of their clientele are local movers and shakers and their business is good.
Have a safe trip.

I guess it depends upon exactly what they're moving and who they're shaking.

Actually, Ken, the customers at Sano's seem to be the better off leaders of the community...I think.
Oh well, I don't know where I'm going with this 'cause I just don't know. What I do know is the guy sitting at the table next to you in the dining room probably won't pick your pocket. That's worth something.

tripledigitken - 5-11-2009 at 01:53 PM

Dennis,

My initial thought was those "Movers" usually have a few people gunning for them, wouldn't want to get caught in the crossfire!:lol::lol:

Just having fun with ya!

Yeah Ken...I know. Thanks.

One thing I have found out about Papagayos is that a 2 night reservation is require. We only need 1 night. Any input? Connie

Bajahowodd - 5-11-2009 at 04:11 PM

Estero Beach is guard-gated. I'd certainly recommend them. Great rooms and a decent restaurant. And it is South of town. Check out their web site. The Joker would be a joke, as far as security is concerned as it is right on the main drag, with more than one access to the parking lot.

And for good measure, I know many nomads seem to like Papagayos, but if you check out Tripadvisor.com, it has been really trashed in the reviews recently.

The two night minimum is only for busy periods and is negotiable. We stayed there in August last year with only a one night stay.

Give them a call.
